Box Score 4 The Cloud County Thundbird Volleyball team has now won eight straight matches, pushing their overall record to 18-7 overall and 8-3 in KJCCC play.
The T-Birds traveled to Northeastern A&M Community College for four games in two days. The trip was a chance for Cloud to play quality opponents from outside the Jayhawk West Conference.
On Friday, Cloud County started the tournament with a win over Allen County Community College 25-16, 25-18, 25-17. The T-Birds got strong performances from sophomores Jocelyn Marten, McKenna White, and Laura Sudbeck. Marten had 10 kills with no errors and also added three blocks. White had seven kills and a season high ten blocks. Sudbeck led the T-Birds with 12 kills in the match.
The Lady Thunderbirds then knocked off North Lake College out of Texas 25-11, 25-15, 25-19. Sudbeck again led the way with 16 kills. Freshman Mandy Michaelis chipped in 24 assists off the bench for the T-Birds.
In day two of the tournament Cloud squared off against Kaskaskia College of Illinois. Kaskaskia entered the match at 16-7. Cloud defeated the Blue Angels in four sets, 25-13, 23-25, 25-29, 25-23. Cloud got strong efforts from Sudbeck and White as well as Gaby da Silva and Cara Flach. Flach had 11 kills, and da Silva had 12. Jaci Kolm had 45 assists.
Cloud then closed out the tournament by battling back to beat Coffeyville Community College 17-25, 29-27, 25-22, 25-19. Coffeyville was ranked #16 in NJCAA Division 2 last week. They entered the match with a record of 21-7. White was a force at the net again with 11 kills and eight blocks.
On the tournament Cloud was led at the net by sophomore's McKenna White and Luara Sudbeck. Sudbeck was an All-Conference performer as a freshman and appears to be regaining form down the stretch for the T-Birds. She had double digit kills in all four matches, and a total of 52 on the tournament. Sudbeck also added 14 blocks on the tournament. White was a force up front totalling 27 blocks for the T-Birds. She also finished the weekend with 38 kills.
Cloud County is currently in 3rd place in the KJCCC Western Division at 8-3. They will travel to Colby to face off with the Trojans (10-16, 6-4) in an important conference matchup. Colby knocked off Cloud in Concordia on September 9th.
