Four Cloud County Community College wrestlers have qualified to compete in the 2025 NJCAA National Wrestling Championships in Council Bluffs, Iowa. Sophomore
Macallistair Chambers (174 lbs.) and freshmen
Micah Cauthers (184 lbs.) and
Jayden Berry (285 lbs.) all placed sixth individually in their respective weight classes at the South-Central District Tournament in Pratt, Kansas on Saturday, February 15, while sophomore
Easton Boone (165 lbs.) earned a wildcard bid to advance to this year's national tournament.
This year's NJCAA National Wrestling Championships will be held March 7-8 at the Mid-America Center in Council Bluffs, Iowa.
Both Boone and Chambers have qualified for the national tournament for the second consecutive season. Boone, competing at 174 lbs. a year ago, went 3-2 overall at the 2024 national championships, including one win by fall and two by decision, while Chambers, wrestling at 165 lbs., finished 1-2 at the national tournament, dropping both matches to ranked opponents by decision.
Boone received Cloud County's lone wildcard bid after he lost two matches by medical forfeit in this year's South-Central District Tournament. Boone received a first round bye before being ruled unable to compete in his quarterfinal match against Dayton Bell of Fort Hays Tech Northwest, and later in the consolation second round against Absalon Valencia of Northern Oklahoma College.Â
Chambers also had to forfeit his last two matches in the South-Central District Tournament due to injury. Chambers started out the day picking up a 17-2 technical fall victory over Derek Truman of Barton, followed by a 19-0 technical fall win over Kash Alley of Colby in the quarterfinals. In the semifinals, Chambers dropped a 5-2 decision to Trey Bennett of Northeast Oklahoma. Chambers was unable to compete in the consolation semifinals against Trystian Juarez of Pratt and medically forfeited out of his fifth place match with Keenan Smith of Cowley College.
Cauthers opened the South-Central District Tournament with a first period fall over Aiden Vasquez of Northern Oklahoma College. Moving on to the quarterfinals, Cauthers fell by an 8-3 decision to Dylan Waggerman of Neosho County. After receiving a bye in the consolation second round, Cauthers scored a 4-1 decision over Peyton Besco of Pratt. Cauthers lost by injury default to Rodney Trotter of Labette in the consolation semifinals, and was a medical forfeit in his fifth place bout against Brannigan Reyes of Cowley.
Berry's day started with a loss by a 9-1 major decision to James Bankston of Pratt. Berry received a bye in the first consolation round, before picking up a second period fall over Nathan Agudzi-Addo of Barton in the consolation second round. Putting himself in position to qualify for the big dance, Berry claimed an 11-7 decision over Christian Clark of Northern Oklahoma College in the consolation third round. Berry was ruled out and lost by an injury default to Jude Beers of Northeast Oklahoma in the consolation semifinals. Berry was a medical forfeit in his fifth place match against Gabe Kant of Labette.
