The Cloud County Community College volleyball team continues its current homestand with a showdown against No. 11 Colby Community College in Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference (KJCCC) play at 6:30 pm on Wednesday, October 8 at Arley Bryant Gymnasium.
Meeting for the second time this season, Colby previously swept the T-Birds in straight sets on September 6 in Colby, 25-10, 25-19, 25-17. The T-Birds were held to a .138 hitting percentage in the match. SophomoreÂ
Carlie Carlgren had five kills on a .333 attack percentage. FreshmanÂ
Elizabeth Schuster had four kills on a .444 attack percentage, while sophomoreÂ
Iza Caroline da Silva and freshmanÂ
Kenadie Casanova finished with three kills each. Freshmen settersÂ
Ylvie Schmid andÂ
Brooke Lougheed both dished out nine assists. Schmid led the team with ten digs, while Lougheed added eight digs in the loss.
This Wednesday's match comes four days after the T-Birds earned a five-set home victory over Northeast Community College on October 4. Cloud County took a 2-0 lead in the match, winning by set scores of 25-18 and 25-23. The Northeast Hawks outlasted the T-Birds 25-23 in the third set before taking the fourth set by a score of 25-22. Cloud County controlled the fifth set, scoring the first seven points of the set on their way to a 15-9 win.
In their last outing, da Silva led the way with 14 kills, six blocks and four digs. Carlgren finished with 10 kills, four blocks and a match-high 26 digs. Casanova provided nine kills. Schuster tallied eight kills and a match-high nine blocks. Redshirt freshman setterÂ
Addyson Ogle distributed 33 assists to go with 17 digs. Schmid added six assists, four kills and three digs. Defensively, sophomore liberoÂ
Beatrice Giusti recorded 17 digs, while Lougheed added 15 digs.
Cloud County is 6-18 overall and 0-8 in KJCCC play. Meanwhile, Colby is 17-4 overall and 9-0 in conference play. The Trojans are led by sophomore outside hitter Kalotta Kattai, who leads the conference with 4.09 kills per set, and sophomore setter Amanda Caputi, who tops the conference with 11.41 assists per set.
