Cloud County Track & Field Teams Open Indoor Season at Graduate Classic

The Cloud County Community College men's and women's track and field teams opened up the indoor season at the Graduate Classic at the Bob Devaney Sports Complex at the University of Nebraska on Friday, January 17.

The highlight of the day was sophomore N Vanee Anchike setting a new school record in the women's 1,000M run in a time of 2:52.39. Anchike set the record winning first in the event.

Cloud County had four runners claim top 13 finishes in the women's 1,000M run, all setting national qualifying marks. In addition to Anchike, sophomore Mercy Angaamchaab clocked in a time of 2:58.68 to place fifth individually. Sophomore Nontokozo Ncube recorded a personal-best time of 2:59.78 to finish in ninth place. Freshman Amanda Kotambe recorded a time of 3:04.00 to place 13th overall.

In the men's 1,000M run, freshman Abdelaziz Benbrahim turned in a national qualifying time of 2:29.75, placing 11th individually. Three other T-Birds competed in the race. Freshman Barafa Abdulazis placed 27th individually in a time of 2:44.48. Freshman Gelasa Abdisa was right behind him in 28th place in a time of 2:45.14. Freshman Cody Sharp turned in a time of 2:49.95 to finish 30th overall.

Pole vaulter Bradie Medina made her presence known in her season debut. The sophomore from Holdrege, Nebraska set a national qualifying mark of 10'11.5" to finish in 12th place.

In the men's 400M run, sophomore Koy Behnke recorded a personal best time of 51.15 to place 13th individually.

Sophomore Ethan Ochana represented Cloud County in the men's one mile run. Ochana was 27th overall in a time of 4:49.51.

Next up, Cloud County will head to Manhattan, Kansas for the inaugural Thane Baker Invitational at Kansas State University on Saturday, January 18. Joining the T-Birds at the meet will be Barton, Butler, Coffeyville, Colby and Iowa Western Community College. The men's shot put will begin the day at 10:30 am. The Cloud County men will compete in 13 events, while the T-Bird women will compete in 15 events.
