Box Score In a closely contested Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference battle, the Cloud County Community College volleyball team fought fiercely against Seward County but ultimately suffered a four-set road loss on Saturday, September 7, losing 15-25, 21-25, 25-17, 22-25.
Cloud County tallied 42 total kills, led by sophomore
Bradie Medina who had 16 kills to go with a team-high 18 digs. Freshman
Carlie Carlgren collected seven kills and five digs. Freshman
Karoline Schroeder contributed six kills and eight digs. Freshman
Grace Rowland chipped in five kills and eight digs, while sophomore Kloe Waymel added five kills and four block assists.
Freshman
Savana Krupicka dished out 15 assists to go with seven digs. Freshman
Maria Clara Lopes Miranda finished with 11 assists and four digs. Sophomore
Ashley Suter had nine assists and eight digs.
Defensively, freshman
Berkleigh Curtis picked up nine digs. Sophomore
Emery May had three digs and three block assists.
Seward County (4-7, 1-1) took control of set one behind an early 13-3 scoring run. Having to dig out of that scoring hole proved to be too much and Cloud County dropped the first set, 15-25.
Set two was competitive and an improvement for Cloud County. The T-Birds led at 9-6 before Seward County stormed back, tying the game at 9-all. The set featured three more ties before the Saints grabbed the advantage, scoring five of the final six points to win, 21-25.
Cloud County rebounded and controlled the third set, leading by five points at six separate intervals. A kill by sophomore
Bradie Medina then put the T-Birds up at 23-17. Freshman
Karoline Schroeder followed with an ace before Medina added the set winning point at 25-17.
The T-Birds carried the momentum into the fourth set, jumping out to a 17-12 advantage. Seward County then responded with a 9-1 scoring run that put them ahead at 18-21. Cloud County later pulled back to within one point at 21-22 following a kill by Medina, but the T-Birds never could retake the lead, and the Saints hung on for the victory.Â
Cloud County (3-7, 0-2) will kick off the home schedule next time out, as they play host to McPherson College JV in their home opener on Monday, September 9. First serve is set for 6 pm and the match will be streamed live on the
T-Bird Sports Network.
