WICHITA, Kan. – Capping off Friday evening with a school-record and three National Qualifying Performances, the Cloud County Community College men's track and field team would pick up where they left off on Saturday by seeing another school-record fall and two more marks lead to National Qualifying Performances to close out the 2022 KT Woodman Classic held at Cessna Stadium in Wichita, Kansas.
Led by freshman
Kidus Misgina on Friday evening, CCCC would see a school-record time of 29:45.69 by the Chicago, Illinois native to go along with times of 31:21.42 from
Michael Iyali and 31:23.76 by
Edwin Kipainoi leading to three runners posting a national qualifying time in the 10,000 meters. The T-Birds would then see Brad Davies-Pughe put together his best performance of the year in the long jump by recording a mark of 7.25 meters (23 ft. – 9.5 in.) to place second among a 28-competitor field and qualify for the 2022 National Championship Meet with the 11th-best mark recorded this season in the NJCAA.
Big marks would continue to be put up by Cloud County throughout the remainder of the field events on the day on Saturday as reigning Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference Track Athlete of the Week
Vincent Ugwoke would take second in the discus with a throw of 55.37 meters (181 ft. – 8 in.) before seeing
Timothy Nyinguan go on to win the triple jump with a mark of 15.86 meters (52 ft. – 0.5 in.).
Mohamed Ahmed would also add a runner-up finish in his only event of the meet by recording a throw of 62.46 meters (204 ft. – 11 in.) in the hammer throw while seeing
Ben Okraska take seventh in the pole vault with a season-best mark of 4.65 meters (15 ft. – 3 in.).
Over on the track on Saturday, CCCC would start the day with a National Qualifying Time in the 4x100 meter relay by taking fourth with a time of 41.28 seconds before seeing Nyinguan (48.16 seconds) and
Emmanuel Wanga (48.22 seconds) take third and fourth in the 400 meters. The final school-record performance would come courtesy of
Freider Fornasari in the 100 meters with a time of 10.38 seconds before going on to place eighth in the 200 meters with a time of 21.37 seconds.
What's Next?
Cloud County will head to a meet hosted by an NCAA Division I University for the second straight weekend next weekend when the T-Birds head to Norman, Oklahoma to take part in the University of Oklahoma Sooner Invitational and Multi-Events. Action will begin on Friday, April 15th before concluding on Saturday, April 16th at the John Jacobs Track Complex.
