Box Score Cloud County sophomore
Vasya Seymour recorded a two-run walk-off home run against Hutchinson at home last week. Five days later, Seymour delivered a go-ahead pinch-hit home run in his only at bat against Cowley College.
The T-Birds (33-4), who led 6-3 at the end of the fifth before trailing 9-6 in the sixth and 9-7 going into the bottom of the eighth, stormed all the way back for an 11-9 win over the visiting Tigers in non-conference play on Tuesday, April 7.
Seymour belted his sixth home run of the season, coming off the bench for a three-run shot to center field that scored redshirt freshman outfielder
Evan Gunn and freshman pinch runner
Brody Seidl. Seymour is now batting .426 on the season with ten extra-base hits.
It was an epic comeback for the T-Birds, who are just 5-5 in their last ten games against Cowley College. Freshman catcher
Kellan Burke's three-run home run to center field in the bottom of the fifth inning gave Cloud County a 6-3 lead. Then came the sixth, when the Tigers brought 11 batters to the plate, drew five walks including four consecutive free bases, and scored six runs on three hits to make it a 9-6 game.
Freshman designated hitter
Nolan Green cut the deficit to two runs with a lead-off home run in the bottom of the sixth.
Both clubs were retired in order in the seventh, while the Tigers stranded one base runner in the top half of the eighth.
Redshirt freshman outfielder
Evan Gunn led-off the eighth inning with an infield single. Two batters later, sophomore first baseman
Luke Clayton singled to center field to set up Seymour pinch-hitting in freshman
Kale Koch's spot. Seymour is now 8-for-17 (.471) with two home runs, five RBI and nine runs scored in Cloud County's last five games.
Sophomore short stop
Lucas Laukkanen added his ninth home run of the season with a two-out solo shot in the bottom of the eighth to give the T-Birds an insurance run entering the ninth.
With four home runs on Tuesday, the T-Birds have more home runs this season than they have ever had before. Cloud County has 84 home runs, which breaks the program single-season home run record of 82 set in 2022. Of course, there's still 17 regular-season games remaining this year.
Seymour provided the record-breaking blast.
Seymour and Burke both drove in three runs apiece. Clayton, Green and sophomore second baseman
Joey Marino each notched two hits on the day. Green scored twice. Koch drove in a pair of runs with a two-out double in the second.
Freshman right-hander
Bradley Janes earned his first win of the season in relief, throwing two full innings with no runs on one hit while punching out four. Freshman
Jackson Fox secured his first save of the season, striking out three of the four batters he faced in the ninth. Freshman
Jett Wahlmeier picked up a no-decision after surrendering one run on two hits with five strikeouts in three innings pitched.
Cloud County will return to Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference (KJCCC) play on Thursday, April 9 with a doubleheader at Butler Community College. First pitch will be at 1 pm at McDonald Stadium in El Dorado, Kansas.
