Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 The Cloud County Community College baseball team closed out its opening Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference (KJCCC) doubleheader with a walk-off 5-4 victory in nine innings over Pratt Community College at Lee Doyen Field in Concordia on Thursday, March 5.

Sophomore third baseman Kaden Budke led off the ninth with a triple to right field. Sophomore Vasya Seymour later dropped down a pinch-hit squeeze bunt and Budke slid home safely to give the T-Birds a walk-off win.

Cloud County jumped in front 2-0 after redshirt freshman Simon Baker scored on an RBI triple to left field by freshman catcher Kellan Burke. Two innings later, Baker walked and Burke followed with a single to center field that was misplayed defensively, allowing Baker to score for the second time in the game.

The T-Birds extended its lead to 3-0 in the bottom of the fifth when redshirt freshman outfielder Evan Gunn singled to right field, scoring sophomore short stop Lucas Laukkanen from second base.

Pratt managed to get on the board in the top of the sixth when freshman Aidan McNulty scored on an RBI ground out by freshman Owen Schmidt. One batter later, Pratt climbed to within a run on a solo home run to center field by sophomore Eli Patrick.

The Beavers tied the contest at 3-3 in the top half of the seventh on an RBI single to left by redshirt freshman Jabin Moore.

Cloud County regained the lead at 4-3 in the bottom of the seventh when Gunn led off the inning with a solo shot to left for his first home run of the season.

The drama ramped up in the top half of the ninth when sophomore pinch hitter Ronald Woods connected on a one-out double to left before scoring on an RBI single to left by sophomore Chase Rollings to tie the game at 4-4.

Budke led off the bottom of the ninth with his first triple of the season. After intentionally walking Baker, Pratt freshman pitcher Ian Vandepol retired Burke before Seymour won the ballgame on a walk-off squeeze bunt that scored Budke from third base.

The victory marked the team's 10th straight win, improving Cloud County's record to 16-1. The T-Birds are now 9-0 at home.

Gunn was 2-for-4 in the victory with a pair of RBI. Burke added two hits and drove in a run, while Baker scored twice.

Sophomore Evan Bogart earned his third win of the season, allowing one run over 2.1 innings out of the bullpen. Bogart struck out five. Freshman Ian Razak finished with no-decision after giving up three earned runs on seven hits with no walks and four strikeouts in 6.2 innings.

In the first game of the doubleheader, Cloud County scored five runs in the bottom of the sixth inning for a 7-3 come-from-behind win over Pratt.

Pratt got on the board early with a two-out, two-run home run to left field by Schmidt in the top of the third. Cloud County tied the game in the bottom of the fourth when sophomore outfielder Carter Cathers drilled a two-run home run of his own to left field, knotting the game at 2.

Schmidt posted his second home run of the game in the top of the sixth with a solo shot to left to put Pratt ahead 3-2.

In the bottom of the sixth, sophomore second baseman Joey Marino walked and Cathers was hit by a pitch. After both runners advanced on a fly out to left by Laukkanen, Seymour and redshirt freshman Tanner Jacobson laid down back-to-back squeeze bunts to score pinch runner Brody Seidl and Cathers to push Cloud County in front at 4-3. Budke crushed a single to center field to bring in Seymour and Jacobson, while Baker capped the scoring with an RBI double to center field.

Baker went 2-for-4 with two doubles and a run batted in. Seymour also had a pair of hits with one RBI and a run scored.

Sophomore Stocton Timbrook notched his third win of the year with his second consecutive complete-game performance. Timbrook, the current KJCCC West Division Pitcher of the Week, gave up three runs on five hits with a career-high 13 strikeouts and no walks. Timbrook is the only T-Bird to pitch a complete game this season.

Cloud County and Pratt will play two more games in Pratt on Saturday, March 7. Game times are set for 12:30 pm and 3 pm, respectively.
