Box Score 2 The Cloud County Community College baseball team opened its four-game Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference (KJCCC) series against Garden City Community College in strong fashion on Thursday, March 12, sweeping the Broncbusters in a road doubleheader and extending their winning streak to 15 games.
Boosted by an eight-run sixth inning and five different players recording two-hits or more, the T-Birds slugged its way to a 15-8 victory over Garden City in game one of the doubleheader.
Cloud County opened the scoring in the top of the first inning when redshirt freshman designated hitter
Simon Baker launched a one-out solo home run to deep right field, putting the T-Birds up 1-0.
Garden City took its own lead in the bottom of the second, logging five runs on four hits, highlighted by a three-run home run by redshirt sophomore Will Togher.
The T-Birds quickly took the lead back with two runs in the third and four more in the fourth. Baker drilled his second home run of the game in the third, while sophomore third baseman
Kaden Budke added a three-run blast in the fourth.
Garden City tacked on three more runs in the bottom of the fifth to grab an 8-7 advantage.
Cloud County then exploded for eight runs in the top of the sixth inning, scoring all eight runs with two outs. The T-Birds managed to load the bases before Garden City walked in three runs, while Cloud County freshman first baseman
London Dingwell was awarded first base due to catcher's interference, scoring an additional run.
Leading 11-8, sophomore short stop
Lucas Laukkanen cleared the bases with a double to left field. Sophomore catcher
Vasya Seymour followed with an RBI single to score Laukkanen, moving the score to 15-8.
The Broncbusters left two stranded in the bottom of the sixth, before being sat down in order in the seventh.
Cloud County pounded out 15 hits in the win. Baker finished 3-for-5 with two home runs, two RBI and three runs scored. Laukkanen went 2-for-4 with a double, three RBI and three runs scored. Budke drove in a team-high four runs, while Seymour, redshirt freshman outfielder

Sophomore
Stocton Timbrook went 4.2 innings, allowing five earned runs on ten hits while punching out eight. Freshman
Gage Gannon logged 1.3 innings, allowing no runs on three hits with two strikeouts, before sophomore
Sam Brummund pitched the scoreless seventh, allowing one walk while striking out one Broncbuster.
Game two lasted just seven innings as the T-Birds pummeled Garden City for a 24-1 victory. In all, Cloud County blasted the Broncbusters for 14 hits. The T-Birds registered six extra-base hits, including five home runs, highlighted by a sixth inning grand slam by redshirt freshman outfielder
Tanner Jacobson.
The T-Birds scored six runs over the first and second innings before blowing the game open with nine runs in the top of the third. Cloud County tagged the Broncbusters for three more runs in the fourth, four in the sixth, and two more in the seventh.
Offensively, Jacobson went 2-for-3 with a home run, five RBI and three runs scored. Burke, Gunn and Marino also collected multi-hit performances. Burke crushed a two-run home run to left field in the second, while Gunn belted a solo home run in the fourth. Baker, meanwhile, tallied his third home run of the doubleheader with a two-run shot to center field in the fourth. Dingwell joined the party with a solo blast to deadaway center field in the seventh.
Freshman
Ian Razak earned his first win of the season. Razak pitched six solid innings of two-hit ball, allowing one run while walking one and striking out seven. Freshman
Cooper Tannahill pitched a shutout frame in the seventh, striking out one.
The T-Birds have improved to 21-1 and will return home to host Garden City for two more games on Saturday, March 14. First pitch is scheduled for 1 pm from Lee Doyen Field.
