Box Score 2 The Cloud County Community College baseball team swept Marshalltown Community College in a doubleheader Friday, February 27 at Lee Doyen Field with a 12-0 shutout victory in five innings in game one and a 13-3 win in six innings in game two.
The T-Birds improved to 12-1 with the sweep and will host Marshalltown for two more games on Saturday, February 28.
Cloud County collected four home runs in the second game of the twinbill. Sophomore
Kaden Budke and redshirt freshman
Simon Baker hit back-to-back home runs to start the game in a three-run first inning for the T-Birds. Freshman
Kellan Burke crushed a two-run home run to center field in a three-run fourth inning, while freshman
Nolan Green belted a two-run shot to right field in a three-run six inning.
Cloud County posted two or more runs in all but one inning while recording ten hits, including nine extra-base hits. Green added a triple in the bottom of the fourth inning and finished 2-for-2 with two RBI and two runs scored. Burke went 2-for-3 in the game with a home run, a double, three runs scored and two RBI. Lucas Laukkanen had a double and a triple while also registering two RBI. Baker drove in two runs and scored a pair of runs.
Freshman left-handed starter
Ian Razak allowed one unearned run on four hits with four strikeouts in four innings in picking up his second win this season. Freshmen
Bradley Janes and
Jacob McAdams pitched an inning each, combining for four strikeouts.
In the first game, sophomore right-hander
Stocton Timbrook pitched a complete game to earn his second victory of the season. Timbrook allowed just one hit in five scoreless innings while striking out six batters.
Cloud County scored its first run in the bottom of the first when Budke crossed home plate on a passed ball.
The T-Birds scored four more in the second when Laukkanen scored on another passed ball, freshman
Evan Gunn scored on a bases-loaded walk, Budke scored an RBI sacrifice fly by Burke, and Baker scored on an RBI ground out by freshman
Luke Clayton.
Cloud County capped the scoring with seven runs in the third. Sophomore
Joey Marino had an RBI single to left field. Clayton drove in two more runs with a single to right-center field. Freshman
Broxton Barrientos added an RBI single to right, while Gunn had an RBI base-hit. The T-Birds also scored two additional runs off an error by Marshalltown right-fielder Nolan Johnson.
The T-Birds and the Tigers will play the final two games in their four-game weekend series on Saturday, February 28 at Lee Doyen Field. First pitch is scheduled for 12 pm.
