Three National Qualifying Marks at Bethel College Invitational

The Cloud County Community College track and field programs opened their 2025 outdoor season by taking a partial squad to the Bethel College Invitational at the Bethel College Thresher Stadium in North Newton, Kansas on Saturday, March 22.

The men led the way as they posted ten top-ten finishes with two event wins and set two national qualifying marks, while the women notched six top-ten finishes and one national qualifying performance.

Sophomore Josh Shelly won the Hammer Throw with a personal-record, national qualifying mark of 54.96 meters. Freshman Timothy Asa Berry was eighth overall in the Hammer Throw with a throw of 40.82 meters.

Freshman Barafa Abdulazis recorded a first place finish in the 400M Dash in a personal-record time of 48.16.

The T-Birds had a strong showing in the Javelin, led by freshman Andrew Bowman who placed second individually with a national qualifying mark of 60.81 meters. Freshman Braylon Bittel was seventh overall in the Javelin with a throw of 50.03 meters, while freshman DJ Hollman was ninth overall at a mark of 47.27 meters.

Bittel picked up a sixth place finish in the Discus with a toss of 41.59 meters. Berry placed tenth in the Discus at 39.56 meters.

In the High Jump, sophomore Trey Collins scored a second place finish at a height of 1.91 meters.

Freshman Gelasa Abdisa placed fourth overall in the 1,500M Run in a time of 4:09.19.

On the women's side, sophomore Margherita Sala recorded a national qualifying mark in the Hammer Throw by placing third overall with a throw of 45.72 meters. Sophomore Vivica Addison finished in seventh place in the Hammer Throw with a throw of 36.43 meters, while freshman Piper Camp placed tenth individually with a throw of 33.25 meters.

Addison added a fourth place finish in the Javelin with a throw of 36.49 meters, while Sala added a ninth place finish in the Discus with a toss of 34.95 meters.

On the track, sophomore Maeva Cure placed fifth individually in the 100M Hurdles in a time of 19.38.

The T-Birds will have full teams on the track when they next compete at the 2025 Mark A. Phillips Invitational, hosted by Cowley College, at the Mark A. Phillips Track Complex in Arkansas City, Kansas on Saturday, March 29. Field events will begin at 11 am, while track events will start at noon.
