Cloud County Women's Indoor Track & Field Team Remains No. 2 in Latest National Rankings

The Cloud County Community College women's indoor track and field team remains at No. 2 in the latest U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) NJCAA National Rating Index, released Tuesday, February 4.

Cloud County's Rafiatu Nuhu has been named the Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference Indoor Track Athlete of the Week after a strong showing in the Washburn University Open on Friday, January 31 and Saturday, February 1. Competing in the Women's 800M Run for the first time in her career, Nuhu finished in fifth place in the Washburn University Open in a national qualifying time of 2:14.70. Also at the meet, Nuhu ran 24.37 to place sixth overall in the 200M Dash. Nuhu, a sophomore from Kumasi, Ghana, also joined together with sophomores Mercy Angaamchaab and N Vanee Anchike and freshman Amanda Kotambe on the Women's Distance Medley. The four combined to set a new national record for their home country of Ghana, earning a fourth place finish with a national qualifying time of 12:11.38.

Freshman Maimuna Jallow, a previous Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference Indoor Tack Athlete of the Week this season, added two more first place finishes to her resume. Jallow established a new meet record in the Women's 60M Dash with a facility record of 7.35. Jallow followed up that performance by winning the Women's 200M Dash in a time of 23.69. 

Anchike also competed in the Women's One Mile Run, completing the event in 4:57.90 to finish eighth overall.

Sophomore Chenessa Davis hit the track, competing in the Women's 60M Hurdles. Davis finished in 8.87 to place fourth overall. Davis concluded her strong day with a fifth place finish in the Women's High Jump, with a leap of 5'0.25".

Freshman Tahlia Lienert represented the Cloud County women's indoor team in the Indoor Pentathlon. In the Women's 60M Hurdles, Lienert was eighth in a time of 9.23. Lienert placed 10th in the Women's High Jump event at a height of 4'11.75".

The last T-Bird to record a top-ten finish was sophomore Bradie Medina. Competing in the Women's Pole Vault, Medina reached 11'2.5" to finish in 10th place.

As a team, the T-Birds are currently ranked first in the Central Region with 449.51 points, ahead of Barton (366.83), Hutchinson (216.71), Coffeyville (194.26) and Fort Scott (186.67).

Cloud County will feature a full squad again when they compete in the 49th Frank Sevigne Husker Invitational on Friday, February 7 and Saturday, February 8 at the Bob Devaney Sports Center in Lincoln, Nebraska.
