Box Score 2 After outscoring Marshalltown Community College 26-1 in the first two games of the series on Monday, February 24, the Cloud County Community College baseball team returned to the field against the Tigers on Tuesday, February 25. Cloud County split its final two games with Marshalltown. In game one, the T-Birds struggled to hit and fell 7-3 after collecting only six hits. In game two, Cloud County displayed explosive offense and stellar pitching, rolling to a 13-0 shutout victory in five innings.
In the series finale, Cloud County (8-3) pummeled two home runs in a productive eight-run second inning. Redshirt freshman
David Simmons drove a ball to deep left field for a two-run home run, scoring freshman
Joey Marino. Five batters later, freshman infielder
Eric Bradicich blasted a two-out grand slam to drive home
Luke Clayton,
Lucas Laukkanen and
Noah Konings.
Simmons went 2-for-3 with 3 RBI. Marino was 2-for-2 with four RBI and two runs scored. Konings added a double, while he and sophomore outfielder
Austin Coyle scored two runs each.
Freshman
Cole Linton tossed two scoreless innings, striking out one and allowing only one hit to earn the win. Freshman
Evan Bogart pitched a scoreless third with two Ks. Freshman
Sam Brummond allowed one hit with two strikeouts in the fourth, while sophomore
Creighton Jacobitz closed the game in the fifth with one walk and three strike outs.
In game one Tuesday, Cloud County trailed 2-0 after sophomore Joe Adams delivered a two-run home run in the top of the second inning. Marino and Konings both scored in the bottom half of the frame to tie the game at 2-all.
Marshalltown took the lead again in the sixth when sophomore Sinclair Lee singled to right to score sophomore Alex Wickett. Adams added an RBI single to right to bring home Lee, while the T-Birds later walked in a run to make it a 5-2 game.
In the seventh, sophomore Joey Marker belted a two-run home run to left to push Marshalltown's advantage to 7-2.
The Tigers walked four batters in the bottom of the frame, including walking in a run, to set the final margin.
Marino finished 2-for-3 with a run scored. Coyle had two RBI, while sophomore
Nolan Freund added a double.
With its first four-game series win of the 2025 season under its belt, the Cloud County baseball team will play its next five games on the road. The T-Birds will travel to Weatherford, Texas for a three-game series against the Weatherford College Coyotes, beginning with a doubleheader on Friday, February 28. Next week, Cloud County will open Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference action with a pair of road games against the Pratt Beavers on Thursday, March 6.
