Box Score 2 The Cloud County Community College baseball team earned a pair of wins over Marshalltown Community College on Monday, February 24 at Lee Doyen Field in Concordia. The T-Birds picked up an 11-1 win in five innings in the first game of the doubleheader, before capturing a 15-0 victory in five innings in the nightcap.
Sophomore
Cam MaCleod hit two home runs and drove in four, while freshman
Lucas Laukkanen added a solo home run to help Cloud County to the 10-run win in the first game of the doubleheader.
The T-Birds scored at least one run in all five innings.
Sophomore
Noah Konings got Cloud County on the board with a sacrifice fly to score sophomore
Austin Coyle in the bottom of the first inning. MaCleod then launched a two-run home run to left, scoring Laukkanen, to make it 3-0 in the second. Coyle and sophomore
Gannon White also scored to up the lead to 5-0.
Laukkanen led the off the bottom of the third inning with a solo home run to left. In the fourth, MaCleod lifted a two-out, two-run homer to left, scoring sophomore
Easton Mould.
The T-Birds took advantage of two walks and a balk issued to freshman Jordan Johnson to open the fifth inning. Redshirt freshman
David Simmons drew a bases-load walk, scoring Coyle. Konings lined an RBI single to left, driving home redshirt freshman
Matthew Evans. Mould then drew the second bases-loaded walk of the inning, scoring sophomore
Nolan Freund, to complete the scoring.
Three Cloud County pitchers combined to limit the Tigers to four hits and one run with six strikeouts. Sophomore
Zach Sharshel earned the win. He allowed one hit, walked one and struck out two over two innings. Sophomore
Caden Marcum struck out three, while sophomore
Myles Chamberlain permitted one run on three hits with one strikeout.
Cloud County secured the doubleheader sweep with a 15-0 victory in game two. Cloud County's offense came out hot early, tallying six runs in the first. The T-Birds crossed another run in the second and posted three runs in the third and a five-spot in the fourth to push the score to 15-0.
The T-Birds offense finished with 10 hits and eight walks on the way to 15 runs. Simmons and freshman
Joey Marino led the T-Birds at the plate, both recording three-hit efforts. Simmons went 3-for-3 with a double and three RBI, three runs scored, a walk and a stolen base. Marino went 3-for-4 with a double and a triple and a team-high four RBI. Laukkanen and freshman
Kaden Budke also contributed extra-base hits in the win, with Laukkanen driving in three RBI.
Sophomore
Jack MacIntosh picked up the win. The right-hander worked two innings, striking out four and walking one while allowing one hit.
Ben Soke,
Collier Hestermann and
Tyler Gagnon combined for three scoreless innings out of the bullpen.
Cloud County and Marshalltown will meet for two more games on Tuesday, February 25, beginning at 12:30 pm. The final two games of the series will be streamed live on the
