Box Score 2 The Cloud County Community College baseball team split their road non-conference doubleheader against Seminole State College on Friday, February 14. Cloud County dropped the first game 5-1, but bounced back to win the second matchup by a final score of 9-2.
Cloud County has moved to 5-1 overall on the season.
The T-Birds will remain in Seminole, Oklahoma for a final nine-inning game against the Trojans on Saturday, February 15 at 11 am.
After going down 3-0 at the end of the first inning in the series opener, Cloud County answered with a run in the top of the second when freshman
Joey Marino scored on a throwing error. Unfortunately, the T-Birds were held scoreless the rest of the way. Sophomore outfielder Tyler Payton led off the bottom of the third with a solo home run for Seminole State and the Trojans added one more run in the seventh on their way to the 5-1 victory.
Payton led the way for Seminole State as he went 2-3 at the plate with a home run, a double, two runs scored and one RBI.
The T-Birds collected five hits, including doubles from sophomore
Nolan Freund and redshirt freshman
David Simmons. Freund finished with a pair of hits in the loss, while Marino and sophomore
Austin Coyle each had a single.
On the mound, sophomore
Jack MacIntosh was credited with the loss after pitching one inning and giving up three runs on six batters faced. Freshman
Kai Rempel and redshirt freshman
Ben Soke had four strikeouts each in relief action.
The second game was scoreless entering the fifth after sophomore right hander
Caden Marcum pitched four innings, allowing no hits and no runs while striking out four and walking one.
Coyle opened the scoring with a three-run home run in the top of the fifth, scoring sophomore
Eric Bradicich and freshman
Lucas Laukkanen. The T-Birds registered four hits in the fifth, including an RBI single to left by Freund.
Freshman
Carter Cathers made it 5-0 with a solo home run to lead off the sixth.
After Seminole State posted two runs in the bottom of the sixth, Freund drilled an RBI single to left, scoring sophomore
Easton Mould to increase Cloud County's lead to 6-2 in the top of the seventh inning.
Coyle collected his second home run of the day and his fourth of the season when he crushed a lead off shot to open the ninth. Cathers later delivered a single to left, driving in Freund and Simmons and Cloud County went on to beat the Trojans, 9-2.
Coyle finished 3-5 with four RBI and two runs scored. Cathers had two hits and three RBI. Freund added two hits and two RBI, while Mould went 2-5 with a double and two runs scored.
Marcum earned his first win of the season on the mound.

Myles Chamberlain,
Zach Sharshel and
Aaron Boutz combined to pitch the final five innings, giving up just two earned runs on 26 batters faced with nine strikeouts.
Cloud County has won three of its last four meetings with Seminole State College. The T-Birds and Trojans will play one final game on Saturday, February 15, with action beginning at 11 am.
