Cloud County Women's Cross Country to Compete at KJCCC/Region 6 Championships on Friday

The Cloud County Community College women's cross country team is set to compete at the 2025 Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference/NJCAA Region 6 Cross Country Championships on Friday, October 24 in Colby, Kansas. The women will compete in the 5K race at 10:45 am and the men will compete in the 8K race at 10 am.

The conference will honor the top 15 finishers as All-Region athletes, and the top seven runners in the Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference - West Division will receive recognition.

The Cloud County women's cross country team is currently ranked No. 19 in the latest 2025 NJCAA Division I Women's Cross Country National Coaches' Poll. It is the third appearance for the T-Birds in the top 25. Cloud County will have six runners compete in the conference championships this week.

Cloud County last competed October 4 at the 37th annual Chile Pepper Cross Country Festival in Fayetteville, Arkansas, hosted by the University of Arkansas. The T-Birds delivered two top-10 finishes in the Prairie Fire Pepper 5K, led by sophomore Mercy Angaamchaab who finished in third place with a time of 18:04.8. Sophomore Nontokozo Ncube followed closely behind in sixth place with a time of 18:25.1. Freshmen Maureen Jepchirchir and McKenzie Baker completed the scoring for Cloud County. Jepchirchir captured a 22nd place finish with a time of 19:18.7, while Baker rounded out the scoring by finishing 68th with a time of 20:28.5.

Last season, the T-Birds earned a third place finish in the 2024 Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference/NJCAA Region 6 Cross Country Championships, paced by three runners who each recorded top-10 finishes in the region. N Vanee Anchike, now a junior distance runner at the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley, finished third out of 72 runners in a time of 17:27.05, marking the fastest 5k time run by a Cloud County women's cross country runner. Angaamchaab finished 7th in the region standings with a time of 18:04.81, followed closely by Ncube who finished 9th with a time of 18:35.95.

Following the KJCCC/Region 6 Cross Country Championships, the T-Birds will head to the 2025 NJCAA Division I Cross Country Championships in Fort Dodge, Iowa on November 8.
