The Cloud County Community College wrestling team competed at the Bob Smith Open, hosted by Fort Hays State University on Sunday, December 8.
125 lbs.
Freshman
Gael Garcia began the day with a 17-2 technical fall loss to Luis Vasquez of Colby. Garcia then dropped a match by fall to Cadyn Cole of the University of Nebraska-Kearney in the consolation bracket.
133 lbs.
Freshman
Michael Rodrigues lost in the first round by a 17-2 technical fall to Vincent Cintrano. In his second match of the day, Rodrigues was defeated by fall by Eddie Bowman of Colorado State University Pueblo.
141 lbs.
Sophomore
Daniel Vines won by a first period fall over Hudson Herring of Ouachita Baptist in his opening round match. Vines was defeated by fall in the second round by Trent Moses of Newman. Vines was then a medical forfeit in the consolation second round.
149 lbs.
Freshman
Lukas Zodrow lost his opening round bout by a 13-2 major decision to Talan Braswell of Labette. In the consolation round, Zodrow lost by a 19-1 technical fall to Miles Harris of Western Colorado.
174 lbs.
Sophomore
Easton Boone started his day with a 15-0 technical fall victory over Camren Galicia of Otero Junior College. In his next match, Boone suffered a loss by a 15-7 major decision to Mike Avelar of Air Force. In the consolation bracket, Boone was a medical forfeit.

After receiving a first round bye, freshman
Micah Cauthers was defeated by Pratt Williams of Western Colorado by an 18-2 technical fall. Cauthers won his next two matches in the consolation bracket, posting a 4-1 decision over Michael Santos of New Mexico Highlands, and a win by fall over Edgar Duarte Quiroz of Barton. Cauthers lost his final match of the day in consolation round four to Hunter Richardson of Western Colorado by injury default.

Sophomore
Darian "D.J." Gillins received an opening round bye. In the championship second round, Gillins recorded a 6-3 decision win over Dawson Rull of Central Missouri. Gillins was defeated by fall by Peyten Hahn of Air Force in the championship third round. In the consolation bracket, Gillins was defeated by fall by Jack Allen of the University of Nebraska-Kearney.
Freshman
Jayden Berry also competed at 285 lbs. Berry lost an 8-4 decision to Kevaun Jones of Colby in the first round. After receiving a bye in his first consolation match, Berry lost a 4-1 decision to Nicholas Martinez of Colby.
The T-Birds will now have an extended break and will return to the mat on Friday, January 10 and Saturday, January 11 at the 2025 National Junior College Athletic Association Coaches Association duals hosted by Northeastern Oklahoma A&M. Matches will start at 9 am.
