The Cloud County Community College wrestling team competed in the Grand View Open Saturday, November 16 in Des Moines, Iowa. Nearly 50 teams from all divisions and close to 700 wrestlers converged at the Ignit Sports Complex for a full day of competition.
Sophomores
Easton Boone and
Macallistair Chambers, both competing in the 174 lbs. freshman and sophomore division, both finished 5-2 on the day. Boone pinned Sean Cardoso-Thomas of Iowa Central Community College and William Martin of Triton College, won by medical forfeit over Jakobe Lahr of Iowa Central Community College, and earned wins by decision over Ben Bryant of Grand View University and Elijah Brocksmith of William Woods University. Chambers won by decision over Erik Lessears of Briar Cliff University and Ben Bryant of Grand View University, scored two technical fall victories over Evan Newman of Iowa Central Community College and Braelen Toles of Missouri Valley College, and won by fall over Ethan Phillips of Missouri Valley College.
Other notable T-Birds finishes included
Daniel Vines who went 3-2 at 141 lbs.,
Noah Bailey who finished 3-2 at 149 lbs.,
Jacob Vasquez who ended up 3-2 at 165 lbs., and
Micah Cauthers who went 3-2 at 184 lbs.
Cloud County wrestlers who had at least one win in the Grand View Open included
Nolan Bradley at 125 lbs.,
Roderick Brown at 125 lbs., and
Michael Rodrigues at 133 lbs.
Up next, Cloud County will be in Kearney, Nebraska for the Younes Hospitality Open on Saturday, November 23. Matches will begin at 9 am at the Buffalo County Fairgrounds.
