T-Bird Women Have Little Trouble In 6-0 Home Win

Box Score

CONCORDIA, Kan. – The second half of Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference play would begin with a 6-0 win for the Cloud County Community College women's soccer team over Hesston College at Harold M. Clark Stadium in Concordia, Kansas on Saturday, September 28th.

Earning their third shutout in the past four contests, Cloud County has now won nine straight to improve to 9-2 overall and 7-0 in the KJCCC. Hesston falls to 2-6 overall with a 2-5 mark in conference after falling for the second time to the T-Birds this year.

A slower start than typical was seen by CCCC as it would take until the 28th minute for the T-Birds to find the scoreboard. Following their first goal by Mariana Valdes, Cloud County would score again just 3:23 later as Izabella Christina would get a goal off a pass from Gabriela Vargas to put the score at 2-0 in favor of the T-Birds. Vargas would manage to add a goal of her own with just 5:35 remaining before intermission to put CCCC up 3-0 as a pass through a couple of defenders from Brianna Gant would lead to a one-on-one situation that the freshman would take full advantage of.

Putting the game away early in the second half, Cloud county would come out and score twice in the opening five minutes of the second half as both goals would be scored by Aroa Nieto to put things out of reach at 5-0. One more goal would be scored with Thaina Cavalcante making a run on a pass in the 18-yard box and putting away her first goal of the year to finish off CCCC's third six-plus goal victory this year.

It would be all T-Birds statistically speaking as Cloud County would outshoot the Larks by a 42-1 margin while not conceding a single corner kick to Hesston. Six of CCCC's 10 corner kicks would come in the first half which included a corner that led to the first goal of the game. Leading Cloud County offensively was Cupertino and Christina as the pair would each let off seven shots.

What's Next?

Cloud County will make its return trip to Dodge City as the T-Birds and Conquistadors will square off at 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday, October 2nd. In their lone matchup earlier this year, CCCC earned a 4-1 home victory over DC3.
