T-Birds Post Seventh Straight Win With 3-0 Victory At Barton

GREAT BEND, Kan. – Following a week off from action, the Cloud County Community College women's soccer team would grab an early lead and not look back as part of a 3-0 shutout victory at Barton Community College in Great Bend, Kansas on Saturday, September 21st.

Cloud County is now 7-2-0 overall and a perfect 5-0-0 in the Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference while the host Cougars fall to 4-5-0 overall and 4-2-0 in the KJCCC.

Things would barely get going before the T-Birds would get onto the scoreboard as Franciele Cupertino would open the scoring 31 seconds into the game to grab an early 1-0 lead. With winds gusting between 20 and 30 miles per hour at the back of CCCC in the first half, the T-Birds would look to grab control of possession but see things become a back and forth style with Barton putting up three shots in the opening 20 minutes.

With things settling in and becoming a possession style game towards the end of the first half, Cloud County would manage to reclaim the ball following a Cougar corner kick in the 38th to finesse their way down the field and find a second goal in the 42nd minute by Gabriela Vargas to put CCCC up 2-0 at the half.

Cloud County would make an early push in the second half with a pair of shots in the opening minutes before settling in defensively with the wind working against them in the half. Barton would look to attack and put up a shot in the 66th minute before seeing the T-Birds counter with a long breakaway pass to Izabella Christina who would beat the Cougar keeper to the ball and score into a wide-open net to take a commanding 3-0 lead at the 67:15 mark. Four of the final six shots in the contest would be taken by Barton, but the score would remain the same as Cloud County would turn away the three shots that would wind up on goal to come away with their seventh straight victory.

Barton would wind up outshooting Cloud County by a final tally of 17-10 while also holding an 8-6 advantage over the T-Birds in shots on goal. Cupertino would record the lone assist in the contest to finish with three total points on the day as part of a three-shot output leading to one goal.

What's Next?

Cloud County will play their next two games at home beginning on Wednesday, September 25th at 2 p.m. when they host Hutchinson Community College in KJCCC action. The Blue Dragons are 6-1-0 overall ahead of a home match Saturday evening against Pratt Community College.
