Box Score CRETE, Neb. – Taking the lead for good in the 28th minute of the game, the Cloud County Community College women's soccer team broke open a 1-1 deadlock with four additional goals to win by a final score of 5-1 over the Doane University JV team in Crete, Nebraska on Friday, August 30th.
CCCC concludes non-conference play with a 2-2-0 overall record and will enter next week's Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference opener having won their past two matches.
Picking up where she left off on Wednesday, Izabella Christina netted her fifth goal of the season in the 13th minute to put the T-Birds up 1-0 over the Tigers early on. Doane JV would respond six minutes later to knot the game up at 1-1 in the 19th minute before seeing Christina get an assist from Maria dos Anjos Acassia to score her second goal of the game in the 28th minute. Five minutes later it would be Aroa Nieto who would find the back of the net with Christina providing an assist for her fifth point of the afternoon as the T-Birds would take a 3-1 lead at the break over Doane JV.
In the second half, Cloud County would be sure to put the game away early on with a goal in the 51st minute on a goal from Silvia Soriano and go up 5-1 in the 57th minute with Franciele Cupertino finding Alicia Smith for her first collegiate goal of her career. Neither team would be able to break through in the final 30-plus minutes of action, leading to the second consecutive four-goal victory for the T-Birds.
It would be a relatively easy afternoon for goalkeeper Thaynara Soares as the Belo Horizonte, Brazil native would see the Tigers let off a total of three shots while allowing just one goal in 90 minutes of action to pick up the victory between the pipes. Neto and Cupertino would lead CCCC with five shots each as the T-Birds would let off 24 shots in the game despite earning just one corner kick in the contest.
What's Next?
It's back on the road for Cloud County following the holiday weekend as the T-Birds will travel to Hesston College on Wednesday, September 4th for a 5 p.m. kickoff to open up KJCCC action. Last season, CCCC swept the season series against the Larks while outscoring Hesston 15-3 in the two matches. Since the program inception in 2017, the T-Birds are a perfect 4-0 against Hesston and have scored at least five goals in each of the four games.
