Box Score DODGE CITY, Kan. - Stunned by a goal 10 minutes into the contest, the Cloud County Community College women's soccer team would tie things back up in the 12th minute and score what would become a game-winning goal just six seconds before halftime in a 2-1 win over Dodge City Community College at Memorial Stadium in Dodge City, Kansas on Wednesday, October 2nd.
Running their win streak to now 10 matches, the T-Birds are now 10-2-0 overall and a perfect 8-0-0 in the Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference while the Conquistadors fall to 4-4-1 overall and 4-4 in the KJCCC.
Things would remain a much closer battle than what was had just three weeks ago in Concordia as Dodge City would gain control early on to take an early lead on a goal by Bethany Middlemass in the 10th minute. It would be a short-lived lead however for the Conquistadors as Cloud County would come back down the field and get a goal from Maria dos Anjos Acassia in the 12th minute to put things square back at 1-1 as both teams would look to grab momentum. The game would then settle in as both teams would see opportunities throughout the rest of the first half, but it would take until the 45th minute when Aroa Nieto would find the back of the net with just six seconds left on the clock before halftime to give CCCC their first lead of the game at 2-1.
Cloud County's goal right before time expired in the first half would prove to be crucial to the outcome of the game as both teams would see limited chances in the second half. No serious threat would be posed by either team to change the score as the T-Birds would see all of Dodge City's shots stay off target to allow CCCC to hang on for the 2-1 win.
In the game, Cloud County would outshoot DC3 by a 15-5 tally and double up the Conquistadors in corner kicks by a 6-3 margin. Neither team would fare all that well shooting on the day, with the only shots on goal leading to the three total goals scored in the contest. Franciele Cupertino would lead all players in the contest with six total shots, while goalkeeper Thaynara Soares would earn her 10th win of the year while playing a complete game in net.
