Box Score PRATT, Kansas — Cloud County Community College forward Luiz Garcia continued his sensational sophomore season on Monday, scoring a pair of goals to help lift the No. 11 ranked T-Birds to their seventh straight victory following a 4-2 road win over Pratt Community College.
Garcia's two goals — each on penalty kick opportunities — gives him a team-best eight goals on the season and at least one score in each of the seven games he has played in thus far this season.
Cloud County (8-1 overall, 6-0 KJCCC) would also receive two big performances from fellow sophomores Hakeem Smith and Rafael Santos on Monday.
Smith got the scoring started at the 19:36 mark of the first half, taking advantage of a loose ball around the Pratt net.
Garcia then added his first goal of the game with 2:27 remaining in the half to up Cloud County's advantage to 2-0 at the break.
The Beavers (0-6-3 overall, 0-3-2 KJCCC) didn't go away quietly, though, as they rallied for two second-half goals to tie the score at 2-2 with 22 minutes remaining.
Santos would halt Pratt's momentum five minutes later, scoring what proved to be the game-winning goal off a set-up from freshman defenseman, Feliphe Pasetto.
Garcia would ice the game 10 minutes later on his second penalty kick goal to give Cloud County a 4-2 lead with 6:36 remaining.
"The men played a great first half, but got too comfortable in the second half," said Cloud County head coach, James Ross.
The T-Birds will look to build off Monday's performance when they continue their mini two-game road swing against Dodge City Community College. Start times have been pushed up three hours due to expected evening thunderstorms in the area. Action will get underway at 2 p.m. with the women's game. The men's game will follow at 4 p.m.
