No. 19 ranked T-Birds down Dodge City, remain undefeated

Box Score

CONCORDIA, Kansas- There would be no ties Tuesday in the second meeting of the season between the Cloud County Community College men's soccer and Dodge City Community College.

The T-Birds, playing in the final game of a four-game homestand, made sure of it as they earned a hard-fought 1-0 victory over the visiting Conquistadors

After the two teams battled to a 0-0 tie back on Sept. 7, Cloud County earned a hard-fought 1-0 victory over the visiting Conquistadors on Tuesday.

"We were much better (Tuesday)," said CCCC head coach James Ross, referencing the T-Birds struggled Sunday in a 2-1 double-overtime victory over Northern Oklahoma College-Tonkawa. "We did not come out flat and played one-touch, two-touch soccer."

The T-Birds (6-0-1 overall, 4-0-1 KJCCC), who settled for a 0-0 tie in their first meeting against Dodge City (0-5-2 overall, 0-3-1 KJCCC) on Sept. 7, received the lone goal of the game off the foot of freshman Reda Chakof.

The Montreal native buried a shot in the low left-side corner of the net for his first goal of 2016. Chakof's goal was assisted by fellow freshman Tyreece John-Blake, who made an immediate impact in his first game back in the lineup as he manuevered around three Dodge City defenders to create the scoring opportunity.

"Tyreece was phenomenal today. We're just working him into the lineup," Ross said. "And that was a great finish by Reda. It was a team win and I give all the credit to the players."

Tuesday's win marked the fourth consecutive victory for Cloud County, which was voted No. 19 in the country in the NJCAA men's soccer rankings released Monday. It's the first time the T-Birds have been ranked this season.

Cloud County look to continue its climb up the rankings at 3 p.m. Saturday when it begins a five-game road stretch against Northwest Kansas Technical College (2-3-1 overall).

"The next game at Northwest Kansas Technical College is probably our biggest away game yet this season," Ross said. "We want to keep climbing in the rankings. We're ranked No. 19 in the country and we feel like we're underranked."
