Box Score 2 Concordia, KS- The Cloud County Baseball team swept a doubleheader from Hastings College JV on Wednesday afternoon. The T-Birds came from behind to win game one 10-8 and pummeled the Broncos in game two 15-1.
Jacob Grady hit for the cycle and the Cloud County bats came alive in game two as the T-Birds got two much needed victories.
Hastings came out swinging in game one. They put five runs up on the T-Birds in the first two innings. The Broncos extended their lead and carried a 7-3 edge into the bottom of the fifth. Cloud sent nine players to the plate in the inning and tied the game with an RBI single from Jose Chacin.
Trace Nelson broke the tie in the 6th with a three-run opposite field bomb to put Cloud ahead 10-7.
Hastings would load the bases in the 7th on Cloud righthander Bryce Girdner forcing Head Coach Greg Brummett to go to closer Cole Otto with two outs and the bases loaded. Otto came in and finished the job with a strikeout to end the threat. Cloud won 10-8.
Jake Wells, Sherwin Salim, and Jose Chacin had two hits each. John Stiger came on in relief to pick up the win. Kasey Biddle started the game for the T-Birds. Cole Otto picked up the save.
Cloud jumped all over Hastings in game two. The T-Birds exploded for ten runs in the fourth to blow it open. Grady and Ryan Cornell launched back to back home runs with nobody out and Bryce Lievens provided the big blast with a two-out grand slam. Grady would come up a second time in the inning and completed his cycle in just the fourth inning with a two-out RBI single. Cloud led 15-1 after 4 innings.
T-Bird starter Chris Langin was efficient as he went four innings and allowed just one run on two hits to pick up the win. He struck out two and walked two.
David Johns finished the game for the T-Birds with a scoreless fifth inning. The game ended due to ten-run rule.
Grady and sophomore third baseman Bryce Lievens combined to go 7-7 with ten RBI's in game two. Lievens was 3-3 and Grady was 4-4. Grady drove in six in his historic performance.
Cloud hopes to build on the momentum as they will now host Pratt on the weekend. Pratt enters at 0-12 in league play. The T-Birds will host doubleheaders on Saturday and Sunday.
