T-Birds Make it Five Straight With Win Over Cowley

It was a heated battle on the campus of Cloud County Community College Saturday as the T-Birds were able to edge the Cowley College Tigers by the score of 2-1.

Seven yellow cards were handed out in the game that required frquent stops in action. Cloud pulled ahead early in the contest as Hakeem Smith broke away 13 seconds into the game and found the net to give the T-Birds a 1-0 lead. They would hang on to that lead until the 68th minute when Leonardo Armando scored on a free kick for Cowley County to tie the game at 1.

Ajuma Johnson found himself in the right spot at the right time again in the 80th minute. Johnson picked up a loose ball in the box and was able to punch it in to put the T-Birds ahead for good. It was Johnson's fourth straight game with a goal. He was named the NJCAA D1 Player of the week just last week. Johnson also assisted on Smith's earlier goal. Leonardo Sosa was credited with asssits on both T-Birds goals as well.

Cloud improved to 6-2 overall, 5-2 in the Jayhawk Conference. They currently sit in 3rd place, behind Pratt (5-0) and Garden City (5-1). They will be back in action on Wednesday in a non-conference matchup at Northern Oklahoma College-Tonkawa.
