T-Birds Advance to Region VI Semis with 4-0 Win Over KCK

The Cloud County Soccer team went 224 minutes without scoring a goal over the past week. In the 58th minute of the opening round of the Region VI playoffs, Marcel Almeida broke the drought and found the net. 

All it took was one for the flood gates to open. The T-Birds would then score three more times in the last 32 minutes to defeat Kansas City Kansas Community College 4-0 and advance to the semifinal round of the Region VI playoffs. 

Kansas City went a man down just before half as Great Ubochi received his second yellow card in the half. Cloud was able to dominate the possesion of the ball from there on out scoring four times to put KCK away. 

Almeida found the net in the 58th minute on an assist from Connor Halpin. Shortly after Lucas Braga scored his first goal of the season on an assist by Leonardo Sosa. Cloud would get two more goals late to put the game on ice. Mateus Silva scored on an assist from Connor Halpin and Gabriel Chavez sealed it with a goal assisted by Sosa. Sosa ranks in the top 15 in the country in assists. 

The Cloud County defense continued its dominance with their fourth consecutive shutout. The backline, anchored by Sosa and Leonardo Catarina, leads Region VI and entered the day 11th in the nation in goals agaisnt per game at 0.89. 

Cloud will move into the semifinals and take on Cowley County who upset #2 seed Barton County. Because the top seed hosts the semifinal round, Cloud County will now host Cowley who is the #7 seed in the tournament. The game will be held at 1:00pm Sunday in Concordia.

The winner of the semifinal matchup will move into the Plains District Championships with the winners of Region II, Region V, and the other Region VI finalist. The winner of the Plains District Championship advances to Nationals.
