Julian Smith enters his fourth year as head coach of the Cloud Count Community College wrestling program in 2024-2025. Smith came to Cloud County from Labette Community College, where he served as an assistant coach from 2017-2020. Prior to that, Smith was a graduate assistant at Fort Hays State University.

In his first three years at Cloud County, Smith has coached three student-athletes to All-America performances in Zach Ferris (197 pounds, 2022), Ibrahim Ameer (197 pounds, 2023) and Wyatt Powell (184 pounds, 2023). He has coached 21 national qualifiers, nine NJCAA All-Academic honorees, and one College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) College Division Academic All-America Team selection.

The Cloud County Community College wrestling team finished the 2023-2024 season with a 7-8 dual record, including a 4-3 mark in Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference action. The T-Birds went on to finish fifth in the 2024 NJCAA South Central District Wrestling Championships, qualifying eight wrestlers for the NJCAA Division I Wrestling National Championships. The T-Birds would finish 28th out of 55 teams at the national tournament.

Before joining Cloud County, Smith coached five NJCAA All-Americans as an assistant at Labette. During his time as a graduate assistant at Fort Hays State University, Smith helped the Tigers coach eleven national qualifiers, four NCAA Division II All-Americans and one NCAA Division II national finalist.

A native of Florissant, Missouri, Smith attended Hazelwood Central High School where he posted an overall record of 110-17, which included a 45-1 mark during his senior year. A two-time All-Conference selection and two-time Conference Wrestler of the Year, Smith later attended McKendree University in Lebanon, Illinois where he wrestled for four years. In his first year with the Bearcats, Smith posted a 16-9 record. He became an NWCA National Champion and All-American in his sophomore year with an overall record of 33-6. Smith then finished as a NCAA Division II national runner-up at 197 pounds his junior year before taking home third-place at the NCAA Division II National Championships as a senior.

Smith graduated from McKendree University with a Bachelor of Science in Physical Education in 2015, and earned his Master's Degree in Sports Administration from Fort Hays State University in 2017.
