Jordan Altman enters his fourth year at the helm of the Thunderbirds after being named the fifth head men’s basketball coach in program history on May 30, 2017.
Altman came to CCCC after spending two seasons as an assistant at Garden City Community College.
Altman’s first three seasons as head coach of Cloud County has seen the T-Birds knock off two nationally-ranked opponents including No. 1 ranked and defending National Champion Hutchinson in his first year, host an NJCAA Region VI playoff game, and send 15 players to four-year programs including three NCAA Division I Programs (Ramion Burt Jr. - Fort Wayne, Breyon Jackson - Long Beach State, Iyen Enaruna - Evansville).
Under Altman’s tutelage, Cloud County has had four players named All-KJCCC for their performances (Alvin Thompson, Edoardo Del Cadia, Iyen Enaruna, and Jay Lewis), with Thompson, Del Cadia, and Lewis all earning at least one KJCCC Player of the Week Award during their time with the T-Birds.
An Omaha, Nebraska native, Altman graduated from Millard West High School before moving on to Creighton University where he received his bachelor’s degree in Journalism and Mass Communications.
While at Garden City, Altman helped the Broncbusters to records of 18-14 overall in 2015-16, and 16-15 overall this past winter in a deep Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference (KJCCC).
In addition to his time at Garden City, Altman spent three years as head coach at Grays Harbor (Wash.) College for (2012-2015) where he compiled an overall record of 24-54 while trying to turn around a “Chokers” program that had previously gone 4-88 overall during 2008-2012.
Altman’s first experience at the junior college level came in 2011-12 as an assistant at Lane College. He has also served as a graduate assistant at Wayne State College (2007-08) and Indiana State University (2009-10), as well as the video coordinator at the University of Oregon (2010-11) where he worked under his father and nationally renowned basketball coach, Dana Altman.
