Cloud County Volleyball Team Drops Five-Set Heartbreaker to No. 17 Barton

Box Score The Cloud County Community College volleyball team fell to No. 17 Barton Community College in five-sets inside Arley Bryant Gymnasium in Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference (KJCCC) play on Wednesday, October 7.

The T-Birds (8-9, 2-6 KJCCC) secured the opening set, 25-19, and took the second frame, 25-21. Cloud County pushed Barton to the brink and put the Cougars in danger of being swept for just the second time this season in KJCCC play, but Barton escaped with a 30-28 win in set three in the longest set of the match. Barton took control of the fourth set, claiming a 25-19 win to extend the match to a deciding fifth set. The two teams were tied at 8-all before Barton held off the threat, finishing the set and match with a 15-10 wn.

Freshman middle hitter Karina Castellar led the T-Birds offensively with 18 kills on a .485 attack percentage. Freshman outsider hitter Samira Bousri followed with 16 kills and a team-high 28 digs for her tenth double-double performance of the season. Freshman outside hitter Dora Kuburovic recorded 14 kills and 21 digs, while freshman middle hitter Kynlee Hamel added a career-best nine kills on a .214 hitting percentage.

Freshman setter Giulia Todesco dished out a career-high 52 assists. Todesco also added nine digs and a team-high three blocks.

Sophomore libero Brooke Lougheed put up 16 digs and a career-best five service aces. Freshman libero Addison Allen chipped in eight digs.

Bousri, Castellar and sophomore right side Kenadie Casanova finished with two blocks each.

Cloud County will be back at home on Saturday, October 10 to face Hutchinson Community College in KJCCC action. First serve is scheduled for 2 pm and the match will be broadcast live on the T-Bird Sports Network.

The Blue Dragons improved to 15-9 overall and 7-2 in KJCCC play with a home sweep over Seward County Community College on October 7.

Earlier this season, Cloud County fell to the Blue Dragons in straight sets, 16-25, 12-25, 22-25, on September 9 in Hutchinson. Cloud County was led offensively in the match by Bousri who had 11 kills on a .212 attack percentage. Bousri also posted a team-high 10 digs and one block. Castellar landed eight kills, five digs and one service ace. Todesco tallied 19 assists, seven digs and a block. Lougheed had nine digs and one service ace, while sophomore defensive specialist Addyson Ogle finished with six digs and one service ace.
