Cloud County Men's Basketball Team to Host Independence on Hall of Fame Weekend

The Cloud County Community College men's basketball team closes out a two-game homestand by hosting Independence Community College in Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference (KJCCC) play on Saturday, January 17. Tip from Arley Bryant Gymnasium will be at 4 pm and the game will be streamed live on the T-Bird Sports Network. Fans can also listen on NCK 94.9, with Austin McNorton calling the action.

Cloud County will recognize its 19th Cloud County Athletics Hall of Fame class during halftime of Saturday's contest. Cloud County Athletics is proud to announce the 2019 Cloud County men's outdoor track and field national championship team and the 2019 Cloud County men's cross country national championship team have been selected for induction to the Cloud County Athletics Hall of Fame.

Cloud County (10-7, 5-6 KJCCC) is coming off a 112-87 home win against No. 19 Butler Community College on January 14. Redshirt freshman forward Manasseh Stackhouse, the reigning NJCAA Division I Men's Basketball Player of the Week, had 17 points and 10 rebounds for his third consecutive double-double and his fourth in the last five games. Stackhouse shot 5-of-7 from the field, connected on his only three-point attempt of the game, and finished 6-of-10 from the foul line. Sophomores Kuel AkotSamuel AkotSyncere Burnette and Elidjah Savane all had 15 points apeice. Burnette added eight rebounds and a team-high eight assists. Samuel Akot registered nine rebounds with a season-high five assists. Kuel Akot notched a season-best seven rebounds, while Savane had four rebounds in 13 minutes off the bench. Freshman forward D'ontez Walker scored 13 points and had five rebounds. Freshman guard Kam Williams finished with 12 points.

Since dropping six in a row, including going winless in the month of December, the T-Birds have won four in a row to open the month of January, marking their second longest winning streak of the season and the third longest under second-year head coach Kyle Pugh. Cloud County is also 5-3 in Arley Bryant Gymnasium this season.

Independence (9-7, 7-4 KJCCC) is looking to rebound from a 95-93 home loss to No. 21 Dodge City Community College in KJCCC play.

Cloud County has won three of its last four meetings with Independence, but the Pirates won the last meeting in Concordia, 79-66, on December 7, 2024.

During its current four-game winning streak, Cloud County is averaging 96.5 points per game and has a plus-17.0 scoring margin. The T-Birds have also shot 51.7 percent from the floor while holding opponents to 40.7 percent overall shooting, including a 28.1 percent three-point field-goal percentage.

On the season, Cloud County averages 88.6 points per game and has a +10.4 scoring margin. The T-Birds pull down 44.1 rebounds per contest with a +10.4 rebound margin. Cloud County is making 46.7 percent from the field, including 30.6 percent from three-point range. The T-Birds also average 14.1 assists, 10.2 steals and 3.2 blocked shots per game.

Stackhouse scores 13.6 points per game and leads Cloud County with 7.5 rebounds per outing. He has scored in double-figures in four of the last five games, including three games of 20 points or more.

Savane is averaging 11.3 points per game on a team-best 60.2 percent shooting from the field. His 6.2 rebounds per game are second on the team.

Walker averages 10.9 points per game on 58.5 percent shooting from the floor. He also pulls down 4.4 rebounds per game.

Burnette leads Cloud County in assists (4.1 assists per game) and steals (1.7 steals per game). Burnette is averaging 9.3 points per game with 22 made three-pointers on the season.

Kuel Akot has made a team-leading 30 three-pointers this season. He is averaging 8.6 points, 2.3 rebounds, 1.4 assists and 1.0 steal per game.

Other Cloud County regulars include sophomore guard DJ Holloway (8.0 ppg), Williams (6.7 ppg), Samuel Akot (6.7 ppg), and freshman guard Kaidan Chatham (4.2 ppg).
