Cloud County Men's Basketball Team Gets Fourth Straight Win with 112-87 Victory Over No. 19 Butler

Box Score The Cloud County Community College men's basketball team picked up their fourth consecutive victory with a 112-87 home win over No. 19 Butler Community College on Wednesday, January 14.

Seven T-Birds scored in double-figures for the first time this season, while the team eclipsed the century mark for the fourth time this year.

Redshirt freshman forward Manasseh Stackhouse, the reigning NJCAA Division I Men's Basketball Player of the Week, had 17 points and 10 rebounds for his third consecutive double-double and his fourth in the last five games. Stackhouse shot 5-of-7 from the field, connected on his only three-point attempt of the game, and finished 6-of-10 from the foul line.

Sophomores Kuel Akot, Samuel Akot, Syncere Burnette and Elidjah Savane all had 15 points apeice. Burnette added eight rebounds and a team-high eight assists. Samuel Akot registered nine rebounds with a season-high five assists. Kuel Akot notched a season-best seven rebounds, while Savane had four rebounds in 13 minutes off the bench.

The T-Birds outrebounded the Grizzlies, 54-29.

Freshman forward D'ontez Walker scored 13 points and had five rebounds. Freshman guard Kam Williams finished with 12 points.

Since dropping six in a row, including going winless in the month of December, the T-Birds have won four in a row to open the month of January, improving their record to 10-7 overall and 5-6 in Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference (KJCCC) play. Cloud County is also 5-3 in Arley Bryant Gymnasium this season.

The  T-Birds shot a conference-best 59.0 percent (36-of-61) from the field, including a season-best 52.9 percent (31-of-49) from behind the arc.

Butler Community College, which entered the game averaging 109 points per contest, was held below 90 points for the first time since November 22, and for only the second time all season. The Grizzlies shot 29-of-75 (38.7 percent) from the floor, 11-of-42 (26.2 percent) from three-point range, and 18-of-25 (72.0 percent) from the free-throw line.

The victory moves Cloud County into a three-way tie with Hutchinson and Barton for eighth place in the KJCCC Division I men's basketball standings.

Cloud County went ahead to stay following a three-pointer by Burnette at the 14 minute mark of the first half. A three by Williams gave the T-Birds their first double-digit lead at the 10:02 mark. Cloud County ended the half on a 29-8 run over the final seven minutes to grab a 66-34 advantage entering the locker room.

Butler scored the first 15 points of the second-half to cut the deficit to 17 points with 17:55 to go. Six straight points by Savane quickly pushed the T-Bird lead back to 23. The Grizzlies would get no closer than 19 points the rest of the way.

Cloud County's current four game winning streak is their second longest of the season and the third longest under second-year head coach Kyle Pugh. The T-Birds have also won two in a row, and three of their last four, against Butler.

Cloud County will wrap up a two-game homestand with a contest against the Independence Pirates in KJCCC action on Saturday, January 17 in Arley Bryant Gymnasium. Tip-off is set for 4 pm. The game will be streamed on the T-Bird Sports Network. In addition, Austin McNorton will call the game on NCK 94.9.
