The Cloud County Community College volleyball team opens the month of October at home with a 6:30 pm match against No. 12 Barton Community College on Wednesday, October 1 at Arley Bryant Gymnasium.
The match will be streamed live on the
T-Bird Sports Network.
Prior to the match, Cloud County Residence Life will be hosting a tailgate party outside entrance two of the college's Concordia campus. T-Bird students can enjoy pizza, games and more, beginning at 5:30 pm.
Cloud County has lost five straight matches to sit at 5-16 overall and 0-6 in Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference (KJCCC) play. The T-Birds are coming off a three-set home loss to Butler Community College on September 27, 12-25, 12-25, 16-25. Freshman
Kenadie Casanova paced the T-Birds' offense with six kills. Sophomore
Iza Caroline da Silva picked up five kills and five digs. Freshmen middle hitters
Elizabeth Schuster and
Zoey Sudbeck tallied four kills each. Schuster also added two service aces. Redshirt freshman
Addyson Ogle accumulated nine assists, while freshman
Ylvie Schmid had five assists. Sophomore libero
Beatrice Giusti had a team-high 14 digs, while sophomore
Berkleigh Curtis tallied five digs.
Sophomore outside hitter
Grace Rowland leads the team with 176 kills, an average of 2.79 kills per set. Rowland is also second on the team with 147 digs but has missed the last two matches due to an injury.
Sophomore pin hitter
Carlie Carlgren has 108 kills, an average of 1.89 kills per set.
Schuster is off to a strong start in her first year as a T-Bird. The freshman from Holton, Kansas has 106 kills to go with a team-leading 24 service aces and 40 blocks.
Ogle paces the Cloud County attack with 222 assists, an average of 4.53 assists per set, to go with 19 service aces and 86 digs.
Schmid has 194 assists, an average of 6.06 assists per set, while freshman
Brooke Lougheed has accumulated 118 assists, an average of 2.36 assists per set.
Lougheed and Giusti lead the T-Birds back row. Giusti has 224 digs, an average of 3.61 digs per set, while Lougheed has 138 digs, an average of 2.76 digs per set.
Barton Community College enters this week's match at 18-5 overall and 5-1 in KJCCC play. Their lone conference loss was a five-set road defeat to No. 11 Colby Community College on September 24. The Cougars bounced back from that loss on September 27 by recording a four-set road win over Garden City Community College.
Barton has won four straight meetings over Cloud County, including sweeping both of their conference matches with the T-Birds in 2024.
