Coming off a 2024 season that saw the Cloud County Community College women's cross country team place ninth at the NJCAA Division I Cross Country Championships, the T-Birds came in at No. 20 in the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) preseason national coaches' poll which was released on Wednesday, August 27.
The T-Birds are one of six Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference (KJCCC) institutions represented in the poll. Garden City Community College and Butler Community College check in at seventh and eighth, respectively. Hutchinson Community College checks in at No. 15, while Dodge City Community College checks in at No. 18. Neosho County Community College occupies the No. 25 spot in the rankings.
Cloud County returns three runners from last fall. Sophomore
Mercy Angaamchaab posted a top 20 finish at the national championships, running the 5k at Pole Green Park in Richmond, Virginia in 17:57.9 to finish 18th individually. Sophomore
Nontokozo Ncube crossed the finish line in 18:31.7 to finish in 36th place at the national meet, while sophomore
Rafiatu Nuhu completed the race in 20:59.5 to finish in 126th place.
Cloud County opens the 2025 cross country campaign on Saturday, September 6 at the 77th annual JK Gold Classic in Wichita, Kansas. The meet, hosted by Wichita State University, will be held at Clapp Cross Country Course. The men's course will be a 6k race, beginning at 8 am, while the women will compete in a 5k race starting at 8:30 am.
