Box Score 2 Enjoying its first of three home triangulars, the Cloud County Community College volleyball team took care of business in their home debut on Wednesday, August 27, taking down Southeast Community College and McPherson College JV in a triangular inside Arley Bryant Gymnasium. The T-Birds opened with a four-set defeat of Southeast Community College, and then rallied in their final match to knock off McPherson College JV in five sets.
The wins improve Cloud County's record to 3-3 on the season.
The T-Birds defeated the Southeast Bobcats 25-20, 25-27, 25-21, 25-22. Making her season debut, sophomore pin hitter
Carlie Carlgren led the offense with 13 kills. Freshman middle hitter
Elizabeth Schuster posted 11 kills and five blocks. Sophomore
Grace Rowland had 10 kills and eight digs, while freshman
Kenadie Casanova and redshirt freshman
Julieanne Sandoval added six kills each. Casanova also matched Schuster with five blocks.
Setters
Ylvie Schmid and
Addyson Ogle both saw action in the match. Schmid led the way with 28 assists while Ogle finished with 11 assists and 13 digs.
Defensively, freshman
Brooke Lougheed totaled 14 digs. Sophomore libero
Beatrice Giusti finished with 13 digs.
Cloud County later defeated McPherson College JV by set scores of 23-25, 25-20, 14-25, 25-23, 15-8. Carlgren's 17 kills were a team-high. Schuster followed with 13 kills, doing so on a .650 attack percentage. Schuster also had 10 digs and four blocks. Freshman middle hitter
Zoey Sudbeck totaled nine kills on a .500 attack percentage with four blocks. Rowland added eight kills and seven digs, while Casanova had five kills and four blocks.
On the defensive end, Schmid paced the team with 16 digs to go with a team-high 47 assists. Lougheed followed closely with 12 digs. Carlgren and Giusti finished with seven digs each, while Ogle and sophomore
Berkleigh Curtis each recorded five digs.
As a team, Cloud County posted 61 kills, 74 digs and 17 blocks while hitting .222 in the match.
The T-Birds will take a day off on Thursday, August 28 before hitting the road for McCook, Nebraska for the 2025 McCook Community College Labor Day Weekend Tournament. Action is set to begin Friday, August 29 with matches against Amarillo College and McCook Community College. Cloud County will conclude the tournament facing Lamar Community College and Iowa Western Community College on Saturday, August 30.
