Hutchinson Dominates Second-Half to Hand Cloud County Men's Basketball a Road Conference Loss

Box Score The Cloud County Community College men's basketball team was outscored 64-45 in the second-half and fell for the second time on the season to the Hutchinson Blue Dragons, 98-73, on Saturday, February 15.

The Blue Dragons shot 35-of-64 (54.7 percent) from the field, including 60 percent in the second-half. Hutchinson connected on ten three-pointers in the game and shot a blazing 18-of-19 (94.7 percent) from the free-throw line. The Blue Dragons also got 42 points in the paint, 26 fast-break points and 22 points off turnovers.

Cloud County shot 27-of-62 (43.5 percent) for the game, but were just 1-of-7 (14.3 percent) from three-point range in the second-half. The T-Birds were also just 13-of-22 (59.1 percent) from the foul line.

The T-Birds jumped out to a 16-6 lead on a three-pointer by freshman guard Syncere Burnette with 11:43 remaining in the opening half. Cloud County led for 14 minutes and 32 seconds in the first-half but Hutchinson responded with an 18-6 run, grabbing the lead on a layup by freshman guard Bo Aldridge with 3:40 to go before halftime. Hutchinson extended its lead out to nine points following a three-pointer by sophomore guard DJ Dudley. Cloud County freshman guard Amare Johnson answered with a three-point basket, cutting the Blue Dragons' lead to 34-28 at the break.

The two teams traded points throughout the first five minutes of the second-half before Hutchinson was able to push its lead out to 10 points on an offensive rebound and tip-in by Dudley. The lead hovered around the 10-point mark for the next four minutes before freshman guard Bobby Cannon and redshirt sophomore Mikhail Abdul-Hamid drilled back-to-back three-pointers to give the Blue Dragons a 15 point advantage with 11:19 to play.

Cannon added a pair of free-throws and Abdul-Hamid poured in two more three-pointers to push Hutchinson's lead out to 22 points at 73-51 with 9:39 remaining.

Cloud County got no closer than 15 points the rest of the way while the Blue Dragons led by as many as 28 points on their way to recording the regular season sweep and their fifth consecutive victory over the T-Birds. 

Cannon led the attack with 25 points and six rebounds. Dudley scored 22 points, dished out 10 assists and collected eight rebounds. Aldridge had 19 points on 9-of-11 shooting to go with seven rebounds. Abdul-Hamid connected on three treys and finished with 13 points.

Freshman forward Elidjah Savane had 26 points and five rebounds to lead the way for Cloud County. Burnette was also in double-figures with 20 points with three made three-pointers. Johnson and sophomore Fallou Koite each had eight points.

Cloud County moves to 11-14 on the season and 5-14 in Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference action. The T-Birds now prepare to host Coffeyville Community College in a conference game on Monday, February 17 at 3 pm.
