The Cloud County Community College men's basketball team will conclude its non-conference schedule when it hosts North Platte Community College on Saturday, November 15. The contest will tip from Arley Bryant Gymnasium at 4 pm and will be streamed live on the
T-Bird Sports Network with Spencer Farha on the call.
Cloud County defeated Kansas Wesleyan University JV 115-77 in the home opener on Wednesday, November 12. With the win, the T-Birds improve to 4-1 on the season.
Al Brooks Jr., the current Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference Division I Men's Basketball Player of the Week, led the T-Birds with 22 points on 10-of-12 shooting, including knocking down both of his three-point attempts. Brooks also led the team with eight rebounds to go with three assists and three steals.
For the second time this season, six T-Birds scored in double figures, including 17 points each from
Syncere Burnette and
Manasseh Stackhouse. Burnette was 4-of-5 from behind the arc. Stackhouse was 8-of-14 from the floor and added seven rebounds.
Sophomore
Elidjah Savane tallied 15 points on a perfect 7-of-7 performance from the field. Savane also had six rebounds off the bench. Freshman guard
D'ontez Walker contributed 11 points on an efficient 5-of-5 showing from the field, while sophomore guard
Kuel Akot recorded 10 points with two made three-pointers to go with four assists and three rebounds.
The T-Birds were active defensively, forcing 22 turnovers while outrebounding Kansas Wesleyan JV, 41-28, including limiting the Coyotes to just four offensive rebounds.
Cloud County has scored 100 or more points three times this season and five times under head coach
Kyle Pugh. The T-Birds shot 47-of-80 (58.8 percent) from the field and 10-of-25 (40.0 percent) from three-point range. The T-Birds also finished 11-of-19 (57.9 percent) from the foul line.
Through five games, Cloud County is averaging 99.8 points per game with a plus-23.0 scoring margin. The T-Birds pull down 47.4 rebounds per game with a plus-15.2 rebound margin. Cloud County averages 15.6 assists per game and 13.2 steals per contest.
The North Platte Community College Knights are 4-2 after its 91-77 home win over Garden City Community College on November 12. Sophomore transfer Brady Kennison led the way for the Knights, scoring a game-high 31 points on 10-of-18 shooting. Sophomore Justus Michael added a double-double finishing with 23 points and 14 rebounds.
Cloud County has won two straight and six of its last eight meetings with North Platte. Last year, the T-Birds earned a 73-63 road win over the Knights. Savane led the way with 24 points on 11-of-17 shooting and 13 rebounds, including eight on the offensive glass.
Following this weekend's game with the Knights, Cloud County will play Seward County Community College in their Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference opener on Wednesday, November 19. Tip from Arley Bryant Gymnasium in Concordia will be at 8 pm and the game will be streamed on the
T-Bird Sports Network.
