Box Score The Cloud County Community College men's basketball team defeated Kansas Wesleyan University JV 115-77 in the home opener on Wednesday, November 12. With the win, the T-Birds improve to 4-1 on the season.
Al Brooks Jr., the current Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference Division I Men's Basketball Player of the Week, led the T-Birds with 22 points on 10-of-12 shooting, including knocking down both of his three-point attempts. Brooks also led the team with eight rebounds to go with three assists and three steals.
For the second time this season, six T-Birds scored in double figures, including 17 points each from
Syncere Burnette and
Manasseh Stackhouse. Burnette was 4-of-5 from behind the arc. Stackhouse was 8-of-14 from the floor and added seven rebounds.
Sophomore
Elidjah Savane tallied 15 points on a perfect 7-of-7 performance from the field. Savane also had six rebounds off the bench. Freshman guard
D'ontez Walker contributed 11 points on an efficient 5-of-5 showing from the field, while sophomore guard
Kuel Akot recorded 10 points with two made three-pointers to go with four assists and three rebounds.
The T-Birds were active defensively, forcing 22 turnovers while outrebounding Kansas Wesleyan JV, 41-28, including limiting the Coyotes to just four offensive rebounds.
Cloud County has scored 100 or more points three times this season and five times under head coach
Kyle Pugh. The T-Birds shot 47-of-80 (58.8 percent) from the field and 10-of-25 (40.0 percent) from three-point range. The T-Birds also finished 11-of-19 (57.9 percent) from the foul line.
Kansas Wesleyan JV made 46.7 percent of its attempts but was held to 37.9 percent shooting from long-range.
Cloud County will close out non-conference play on Saturday, November 15, hosting North Platte Community College. Tip-off from Arley Bryant Gymnasium is set for 4 pm, and the game will be streamed live on the
T-Bird Sports Network.
