Box Score 2 The Cloud County Community College volleyball team split a pair of matches at a home triangular on Saturday, October 4 inside Arley Bryant Gymnasium. The T-Birds lost to Pratt Community College in straight sets in their opening match, before bouncing back with a five-set victory over Northeast Community College in the nightcap.
The victory over Northeast allowed the T-Birds to snap a seven-match losing skid. Cloud County has improved to 6-18 on the year.
Cloud County took a 2-0 lead in their match against the Northeast Hawks, winning by set scores of 25-18 and 25-23. The Hawks outlasted the T-Birds 25-23 in the third set before taking the fourth set by a score of 25-22. Cloud County controlled the fifth set, scoring the first seven points of the set on their way to a 15-9 win.
Sophomore outside hitter
Iza Caroline da Silva led the way with 14 kills, six blocks and four digs. Sophomore pin hitter
Carlie Carlgren finished with 10 kills, four blocks and a match-high 26 digs. Freshman pin hitter
Kenadie Casanova provided nine kills. Freshman middle hitter
Elizabeth Schuster tallied eight kills and a match-high nine blocks.
Redshirt freshman setter
Addyson Ogle distributed 33 assists to go with 17 digs. Freshman setter
Ylvie Schmid added six assists, four kills and three digs.
Defensively, sophomore libero
Beatrice Giusti recorded 17 digs. Freshman
Brooke Lougheed added 15 digs.
In the first match, Cloud County suffered its third consecutive loss to Pratt, falling by set scores of 22-25, 22-25, 15-25.
Sudbeck paced Cloud County in the match, finishing with with nine kills on a .333 attack percentage. Carlgen and da Silva had seven kills apiece. Carlgren also added eight digs. Casanova chipped in five kills.
Ogle dished out 31 of the team's 33 assists in the match.
Lougheed led the defensive effort with 11 digs. Giusti picked up eight digs.
Cloud County begins the second round of Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference (KJCCC) play against No. 11 Colby Community College on Wednesday, October 8. First serve is scheduled for 6:30 pm inside Arley Bryant Gymnasium.
The Colby Trojans previously handed the T-Birds a three-set loss in Colby on September 6, marking Colby's fourth consecutive win in the series. Colby currently sits at 17-4 overall and 9-0 in KJCCC action.
