Cloud County Men's Basketball Heads to Great Bend for Conference Road Tilt with No. 22 Barton

The Cloud County Community College men's basketball team will play at No. 22 Barton Community College on Wednesday, January 29. The contest will start at 7:30 pm. Fans can listen to the game on NCK 94.9, with Austin McNorton calling the action.

Cloud County is coming off a heartbreaking 86-85 home loss to Dodge City Community College on January 25. Dodge City freshman guard Derrick Rivers splashed a three-pointer while drawing a foul to tie the game at 85-all. Rivers connected on the go-ahead free-throw with seven seconds left, securing the win for the Conquistadors. With the loss, Cloud County has now slipped to 10-10 on the year and 4-10 in Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference play.

Cloud County received key performances out of freshman forward Elidjah Savane and freshman guard Syncere Burnette. Savane battled all game with the Dodge City bigs to record his tenth double-double of the year by matching his season-high with 25 points and 10 rebounds. Savane has recorded four straight double-double games. Burnette notched a career-high with 25 points on 9-of-14 shooting with six three-pointers to go with eight rebounds, five assists and three steals.

Redshirt freshman Matthew Garber also made big plays for the T-Birds throughout the contest, finishing with 14 points with four made three-pointers and five rebounds.

Barton has won three in a row and eight of their last nine after its 98-85 home win over Garden City on January 25. The defending national champion Cougars began the year ranked No. 1 in the nation, winning their first eight games to open the 2024-2025 season. Barton's record stands at 16-4 overall and 10-4 in Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference play. The Cougars are 8-3 at home this season.

Barton has won the last four meetings with Cloud County, including an 86-75 win inside Arley Bryant Gymnasium in Concordia, Kansas on November 26, 2024. The Cougars ended the night with 11 made three-pointers to five for Cloud County. Savane led Cloud County in the loss with 25 points and 12 rebounds. He also had five blocked shots to go with three steals and two assists. Burnette finished with 16 points, six rebounds and three steals. Redshirt freshman Keyon Garrett-Miller added 11 points, while Garber chipped in 10 points.
