The Cloud County Community College volleyball team will welcome the Pratt Beavers this weekend in a Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference showdown inside Arley Bryant Gymnasium.
Cloud County (5-12, 0-6 KJCCC) comes into the match looking for its first win in conference play. The T-Birds have lost six straight regular season conference matches, including a 3-1 home loss to Butler Community College on Wednesday, September 25. During that stretch, the T-Birds have dropped six sets by four points or fewer.
Pratt (4-14, 1-5 KJCCC) comes into the weekend after recently ending a 42-match conference losing streak that dated back to October 9, 2021. The Beavers picked up their first win over Seward County in nine seasons on September 23, defeating the Saints by final set scores of 25-21, 25-22, 22-25, 25-17. Most recently, the Beavers lost a four-set home match to Hutchinson on September 25, 25-23, 18-25, 19-25, 18-25.
The T-Birds have won nine in a row, and eight of their last nine home matchups with the Beavers. The last matchup took place on October 28, 2023, when the T-Birds swept Pratt in Concordia, 25-23, 25-13, 25-20. Cloud County has won 17 of the last 18 matches with the Beavers.
Cloud County comes into the weekend boasting the conference Offensive Player of the Week, sophomore
Bradie Medina, and the conference Setter of the Week, freshman
Maria Clara Lopes Miranda. Medina leads the team in kills with 195, an average of 3.20 kills per set, as well as an attack percentage of .203. Medina is also the team leader in total digs with 264, an average of 4.33 digs per set. Miranda is the team leader in assists with 245, an average of 5.33 assists per set.
The Cloud County defense has been improving as well. Sophomore
Emery May ranks tenth in the conference in blocks per set (0.87), while freshman
Beatrice Giusti (2.49/set), sophomore
Ashley Suter (2.32/set), freshman
Berkleigh Curtis (2.21/set), and freshman
Karoline Schroeder (2.19/set) join Medina in being ranked inside the top 25 in the conference in digs per set.
Saturday's match will start at 3 pm. The match is taking place during the annual Fall Fest celebration weekend in Concordia.
