Box Score The Cloud County Community College volleyball team battled down the stretch, but ultimately fell in four sets to the Hutchinson Blue Dragons on Wednesday, September 18 at the Hutchinson Sports Arena. Set scores were 8-25, 13-25, 26-24, 16-25.
Sophomore
Bradie Medina posted a team-high nine kills and 11 digs. Sophomore
Kloë Waymel added five kills and four blocks, including one solo block. Sophomore
Emery May had five kills, three block assists and three digs. Freshman
Karoline Schroeder collected five kills and two block assists, while freshman
Carlie Carlgren finished with three kills, three digs and two block assists.
Freshman
Maria Clara Lopes Miranda tallied 15 assists, three digs, two service aces and two block assists. Sophomore
Ashley Suter added nine assists. Freshman
Reachert Chiquin chipped in six digs. Freshman
Grace Rowland provided two kills and five digs, while freshmen
Berkleigh Curtis and
Beatrice Giusti each added three digs.
Hutchinson was quick to gain momentum in the first set, rapidly racing out to a double-digit lead at 16-6 before cruising to the 25-8 win. The Blue Dragons then took a 2-0 lead in the match after picking up a 25-13 set two victory. The T-Birds again fell behind by double-digits at 15-5 and were never able to challenge Hutchinson in the later stages of the second set.
Cloud County managed to seize the momentum in the third set. The T-Birds held early three point leads at 12-9 and 13-10 before the Blue Dragons came storming back. Cloud County trailed late at 24-21 before rallying to win in dramatic fashion, 26-24, to push the match to another set.
The T-Birds cooled off in the fourth set. Cloud County fell behind early at 16-4. The T-Birds continued to battle, trimming Hutchinson's lead down to seven points on two separate occasions. The Blue Dragons, though, kept Cloud County at bay, finishing off the fourth set with a 25-16 win.
The T-Birds (3-11, 0-5 KJCCC) come back home to host a non-conference triangular on Friday, September 20 in Arley Bryant Gymnasium. Cloud County will open play against the Otero Junior College Rattlers (3-15) at 2 pm. Otero will face the Southeast Community College Bobcats (3-9) at 4 pm. The T-Birds will close out the night against the Bobcats at 6 pm. All three matches will be streamed live on the
T-Bird Sports Network.
