Box Score The Cloud County Community College volleyball team put up a great fight but ultimately fell to the Dodge City Community College Conquistadors in three sets (21-25, 18-25, 23-25) Wednesday, September 11 in Arley Bryant Gymnasium.
The conference loss moves the T-Birds to 3-9 overall and 0-3 in Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference play. Dodge City has improved to 9-6 on the season and 2-0 in conference action.
Cloud County had 35 kills on the night, led by sophomore
Bradie Medina who had a team-high 14 kills, nine digs and two block assists. Freshman
Grace Rowland had seven kills and two block assists. Freshman
Carlie Carlgren tallied six kills, six digs and four total blocks, including one solo. Sophomore
Emery May posted eight total blocks to go along with four kills and two digs. Freshman
Beatrice Giusti led the team with 12 digs. SophomoreÂ
Kloë Waymel added seven digs, three kills and one block assist. Sophomore
Ashley Suter chipped in 18 assists and three digs, while freshman
Savana Krupicka dished out eight assists.
The T-Birds found themselves at an early 13-6 deficit in set one, but battled back to tie the set at 17-all on a tandem block by May and Medina. An ace by Giusti, one of five service aces for Cloud County on the night, gave the T-Birds an 18-17 advantage. Dodge City recovered and scored eight of the final eleven points to take the opening set of the match, 21-25.
The second set featured eight ties. Cloud County led by two points at 15-13 before Dodge City fought back to tie the set at 15-all. After trading points back-and-forth, the Conquistadors broke an 18-18 tie by scoring seven straight points to pull away for the 18-25 victory.
Dodge City finished the sweep with a third set victory. The T-Birds trailed early, 5-1, before going on a 9-1 scoring run to grab their biggest advantage of the night at 10-6. Cloud County led by four points at three separate intervals, while the set was also knotted up four different times. Dodge City took control of the match when they put together a 7-1 scoring run to lead at 20-15. The T-Birds made a late rally before coming up short by the final score of 23-25.
Cloud County will host Garden City Community College (7-4, 1-1) in a Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference match on Saturday, September 14 at 5:30 pm in Arley Bryant Gymnasium. The Garden City Broncbusters won their first conference match of the season September 11, defeating the Hutchinson Blue Dragons at home in a five-set thriller, 20-25, 27-25, 25-15, 19-25, 15-9.
