Box Score 2 The Cloud County Community College volleyball team split its two matches on the first day of the 2024 Cisco College Wrangler Ranger Round Up in Cisco, Texas on Friday, August 30. The T-Birds earned a four-set victory over the Coastal Bend Cougars before falling to tournament host Cisco College in four-sets.
Cloud County opened the Wrangler Ranger Round Up with a 3-1 victory over Coastal Bend College. The T-Birds had a strong start to the match, winning the first set 25-17. After falling behind 9-4 to kick off set two, Cloud County scored nine straight points to take control of the game. The T-Birds pulled away, outscoring the Cougars 21-4 to close out a 25-13 second set win. Coastal Bend controlled the third set, fending off a late Cloud County run to win 25-22. The T-Birds recovered and finished off the four-set win, 25-17.
Over the four-set win, freshman
Savana Krupicka had eight kills on a hitting percentage of .462. Sophomore
Bradie Medina finished with a match-high 10 kills and four aces while hitting .364 to go along with 22 digs. Sophomore
Emery May contributed nine kills, three digs and three block assists. Sophomore Kloë Waymel finished with five kills on .385 hitting with one ace. Freshman
Grace Rowland also had five kills.
Karoline Schroeder tallied four kills, three aces and 12 digs. Freshman
Reachert Chiquin notched 16 digs. Freshman
Berkleigh Curtis had 10 digs. Sophomore
Ashley Suter dished out 17 assists with six digs, while freshman
Maria Clara Lopes Miranda ended up with 15 assists and nine digs.
In the nightcap, Cloud County squandered away sizable leads in the first two sets of its match with Cisco. The T-Birds led by as many as six points in the first set and seven points in the second set before dropping the games by the final scores of 23-25 and 20-25, respectively. Cloud County dominated the third set, building up an eight point lead before finishing off a 25-19 victory. But Cisco stormed back and took the fourth set, 21-25, handing the T-Birds their fifth loss of the season.
Medina had 11 kills, 28 digs and two block assists in the loss. Rowland added 10 kills, four digs and three block assists. May finished with eight kills, two digs and four block assists. Schroeder contributed five kills and five digs. Waymel had five kills, five digs and two block assists. Miranda notched 19 assists, while Suter finished with 14 assists and 15 digs.
The Cisco College Wrangler Ranger Round Up will conclude on Saturday, August 31. Cloud County (1-5) will face Seminole State College at 9 am. The T-Birds will then face Western Texas at 1 pm.
