Easton Boone Picks Up First Place Finish, T-Bird Wrestling Places Seven at Benedictine Service Salute

Easton Boone Captured a 1st Place Finish at 174 lbs. at the 2024 Benedictine Service Salute in Atchison, Kansas

Led by a first place finish from sophomore Easton Boone and second place finishes by sophomores Macallistair Chambers and Daniel Vines, the Cloud County Community College wrestling team had seven place at the Benedictine Service Salute in Atchison, Kansas on Saturday, November 9.

Boone, wrestling at 174 lbs., won his first place match by forfeit over teammate Chambers, who also competed in the 174 lbs. bracket.

To start the day, Boone scored two first period falls over Joe Juitt of Avila University and Zeb Fulmer of Texas Wesleyan University. In his semifinal bout, Boone earned a 4-0 decision over Elijah Brocksmith of William Woods University.

Chambers, following up a 4-1 showing last weekend in the Rochester Community and Technical College Yellowjacket Open in Rochester, Minnesota, added three more victories Saturday. Chambers scored a 23-6 technical fall victory over Kendric Gordon of Avila University in his first round match. Chambers then won by an 18-3 technical fall over Dorian Franklin of Colby Community College, before capping his day with a 4-2 decision over Dalton Schell of Quincy University in the semifinals.

Vines reached the first place match at 141 lbs. after beginning the day with three consecutive wins. Vines captured a 21-5 technical fall victory over Coulter Rieschick of Benedictine College. He later added a 15-0 technical fall win over Victor Salazar of Quincy University, and a 17-2 technical fall win over Jacob Snow of Benedictine College. In the first place match, Vines lost his only match of the day by fall to Sabian Russell of Quincy University.

In addition, sophomore Gabriel Bailey placed 3rd at 165 lbs., freshman Noah Bailey placed 4th at 149 lbs., and freshmen Michael Rodrigues (133 lbs.) and freshman Lukas Zodrow (149 lbs.) each placed fifth. Freshman Micah Cauthers was also the consolation champion at 185 lbs. After dropping a match by fall in his opening round match to James Soliz of Quincy University, Cauthers scored three wins, all by fall, in the consolation rounds.

The Cloud County wrestling team will return to action on Saturday, November 16 in the Grand View Open at the Ignite Sports Complex in Des Moines, Iowa, hosted by the Grand View Vikings. Matches are scheduled to begin at 9 am.
