Box Score The Cloud County Community College volleyball team has put together back-to-back competitive Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference matches. Three days after losing a five-set match on the road to Garden City, the T-Birds pushed Hutchinson Community College to the brink but fell in a tight four-set contest at Arley Bryant Gymnasium on Saturday, October 19.
Cloud County gave Hutchinson everything it had, winning the first set by nine points. Hutchinson controlled the game in set two. The third set featured nine ties, with neither team able to build a lead greater than three points. The T-Birds took a late 23-22 advantage following a kill by sophomore middle hitter
Emery May. With its backs against the wall, Hutchinson rattled off three straight points to take the third set. Head coach
Hilta Ramos' team couldn't quite muster the same fight in set four, dropping the match 25-16, 21-25, 23-25, 20-25.
Cloud County's productive defense kept the team in the match. The T-Birds posted ten blocks and had five players finish with seven digs or more. Freshman libero
Beatrice Giusti led the defensive effort with 19 digs. Freshman
Carlie Carlgren had 18 digs. Sophomore
Bradie Medina tallied 16 digs and two block assists. Freshman
Berkleigh Curtis had eight digs, while freshman
Savana Krupicka added seven digs and four block assists.
May led the T-Birds at the net, finishing the match with one solo block and five block assists to go with eight kills and three digs.
Krupicka dished out a team-high 37 assists.
Medina led the offensive output, tallying 14 kills. Carlgren and freshman
Grace Rowland both added eight kills apiece.
Giusti had three service aces and Curtis added two service aces.
Sophomore
Kloë Waymel ended up with two kills, two digs, two assists and three block assists.
The T-Birds continue a three-match homestand on Wednesday, October 23 when they host Central Christian College JV at 3 pm, followed by a match with Central Community College at 6 pm.
