The Cloud County Community College volleyball team will close out the first half of Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference play when they hit the road to take on No. 5 Barton on Wednesday, October 2.
Cloud County (5-13, 0-7 KJCCC) will be coming into the matchup after falling in four-sets to Pratt Community College on Saturday, September 28 in Arley Bryant Gymnasium.
Barton (20-1, 7-0 KJCCC) comes into the match a perfect 4-0 on the season at home. The Cougars have swept 18 of their opponents so far and have not dropped a set in conference play. Their only loss is a four-set defeat to Odessa College in the Sheila Worley Tournament held in Sterling, Colorado on September 13.
Cloud County is currently 0-6 on the road this season, though the team does have three neutral site victories with wins over Coastal Bend College, Seminole State College and Western Texas College. This season, the T-Birds have noticeably struggled to close out sets, dropping a total of eight sets by two points, including five sets in conference play.
Barton has won five of the last seven meetings with Cloud County on the volleyball court, including two wins in 2023. The T-Birds swept the regular season series with the Cougars in 2022.
Sophomore
Bradie Medina continues to rank in the top five in the conference in kills per set (3.20) and digs per set (4.26). Freshman setter
Maria Clara Lopes Miranda ranks seventh in the conference in assists per set (5.50). Sophomore
Emery May is averaging 0.86 blocks per set, which is good for No. 10 in the conference for this statistical category.
Barton holds a stout offense, as they are first in the conference in points per set (17.7) and hitting percentage (.292), and second in kills per set (12.93) and assists per set (12.37). Freshman middle hitter Aubrey Olander, sophomore setter Maurin Reyes, sophomore middle blocker Anna Wierzbicki, and sophomore outside hitter Phoebe Reyes all rank in the top ten in the conference in hitting percentage. Olander ranks first in the conference in blocks per set (1.20), while Phoebe Reyes is fifth in the conference in kills per set (3.10).
