CHARLOTTE, NC – The National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) has released the 2020-2021 NJCAA Academic Teams of the Year and NJCAA All-Academic honorees to honor both teams and individuals for excellence in the classroom.
A total of three Cloud County Community College Athletic Teams finished the full academic year with a grade point average above 3.0 to earn Academic Team of the Year honors while a total of 38 student-athletes earned NJCAA All-Academic honors for completing the year with a GPA of 3.60 or higher. Of the 38 student-athletes earning the distinction, 15 earned First-Team NJCAA All-Academic for finishing the academic year with a 4.0 GPA.
Leading the way in team GPA was the T-Bird volleyball team with a 3.68 GPA while the Cloud County softball team finished with the second-highest GPA within the athletic department with a 3.58 GPA. The CCCC baseball team would also earn Academic Team of the Year honors for finishing with a 3.36 team GPA as all three finished in the top 26 teams in GPA across the NJCAA in their respective sport (each sport recognized over 100 teams with Academic Team of the Year honors). Of the 108 volleyball teams recognized with the award, Cloud County would finish with the sixth-highest GPA while the softball team finished 18th out of 147 qualifying schools. The Cloud County baseball team was one of 109 baseball teams to earn the distinction of Academic Team of the Year in the sport, with CCCC finishing with the 26th-highest team GPA.
In addition to having 15 student-athletes earn First-Team NJCAA All-Academic Honors, the T-Birds would also see eight student-athletes earn Second-Team NJCAA All-Academic Honors for finishing the year with a GPA of 3.80-3.99. An additional 15 student-athletes would finish the academic year with a GPA between 3.60 and 3.79 to earn Third-Team NJCAA All-Academic Honors. The Cloud County baseball team would lead all CCCC teams with 13 total honorees earning All-Academic status with volleyball having eight honorees and softball with seven student-athletes earning the accolades. The remaining 10 student-athletes to earn the honor would come from wrestling, women's basketball, men's basketball, women's track and field, women's cross country, and men's track and field.
