Former T-Bird Athlete Josh Eilert Named Assistant Coach at Wichita State University

Josh Eilert, who once played basketball at Cloud County Community College, is now an assistant men's basketball coach at Wichita State University.

Eilert is no stranger to the state of Kansas and college coaching with more than two decades of experience at the Power 4 level. Eilert played two seasons at Kansas State University from 2002-04 after transferring in from Cloud County Community College where he was a two-year letter winner and one-year starter for former T-Bird men's basketball coach and current trustee, Kevin Muff. Providing quality depth at the small forward spot, Eilert averaged three points and three rebounds per game his freshman season and six points and five rebounds per game as a sophomore. He also earned Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference Academic All-America honors his sophomore year at Cloud County.

He comes to Wichita State after a season at Utah where he was an assistant coach, and even closed the 2024-25 season as the interim head coach for the final six games. Eilert ventured out to Salt Lake City after spending the previous 17 seasons at West Virginia (2007-24) in various capacities, most recently serving as the interim head coach for the 2023-24 season. During his time in Morgantown, the Mountaineers earned 11 NCAA Tournament berths, a Final Four appearance in 2010, and five NCAA Sweet 16s. Prior to joining the Mountaineer staff, Eilert was a graduate assistant at Kansas State University from 2005-07.
 
A native of Osborne, Kansas, Eilert was a two time All-Mid Continent League selection and earned 2A All-State second team honors at Osborne High School.

Eilert and his wife, Brandi, have two sons, Brendan and Tristan, and a daughter, Emri.
