Cloud County Baseball Takes 21-16 Road Decision At Kansas Wesleyan JV

SALINA, Kan. – Coming off a game that featured 42 runs on Saturday, the Cloud County Community College baseball team would once again have no issue putting crooked numbers on the board in a 21-16 road win over the Kansas Wesleyan University JV team at Dean Evans Stadium in Salina, Kansas on Monday, March 8th.

The win moves Cloud County to 8-6 overall ahead of Thursday's Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference Opener as the contest was the first of the season for the Coyote JV team.

Plating a pair of runs in the top of the first, the T-Birds would see KWU JV come back in the bottom of the inning by taking advantage of two singles and two walks to set things up for a grand slam that would cap off a five-run inning. CCCC would then strand two runners in the top of the second before holding the Coyotes scoreless in their half of the inning as things would remain a 5-2 contest heading to the third.

A one-out sacrifice fly from Jack Correll in the top of the third would get Cloud County back within two at 5-3, but Kansas Wesleyan would get the run back and then some by plating five runs on three hits while taking advantage of three more free passes to take their largest lead of the game at 10-3.

Needing some offense to get back into the game, Cloud County would get things going once again in the top of the fourth as a leadoff home run from Jose Luna would be one of two homers in the inning as Kayden Beauregard would also hit a four-bagger with a three-run shot to cap off a four-run inning for the T-Birds.

After allowing KWU JV to get one run in the bottom of the fourth on a solo home run, CCCC would be back in business offensively in the top of the fifth as the T-Birds would use six hits, two errors, two hit batters, and one walk to send 13 batters to the plate to score nine runs and reclaim the lead at 16-11. Kansas Wesleyan JV would then be held scoreless for just the second time in the game as Cloud County would push across three more runs on a Garrett Redden one-out homer to give CCCC a 19-11 lead.

The T-Birds would go on to score one more run in the top of the seventh before allowing the Coyotes to score two runs on two hits and an error in the bottom half of the inning as KWU JV would also score two runs in the bottom of the eight. CCCC would tack on one final run in the top of the ninth for good measure as a clean bottom of the ninth would allow Cloud County to close out their first month of the season with a win.

14 different players for Cloud County would get at least one at-bat in the contest as the offense would be led by a five-RBI performance from redshirt freshman Kayden Beauregard. Five different players would have multi-hit days, including Redden who would be responsible for three RBIs while also scoring three times.

A staff day on the mound would see eight different pitchers make an appearance for CCCC as Jayden Payne would get the win after tossing two innings and allowing one run on three hits. Christian Womble and Jarod Leroux would both strike out three batters in their inning of work as the T-Birds would strike out KWU JV batters 15 times in the game.

What's Next?
For the second-straight season, KJCCC play will open with Cloud County playing host to Seward County Community College to open a four-game series beginning at 1 p.m. on Thursday, March 11th. The T-Birds and Saints split a conference opening series last year, with each team going 1-1 on the other team's home field as SCCC is 3-7 overall ahead of a Tuesday home game with Clarendon College. All three wins for Seward County came this past weekend after the Saints took three of four from Redlands Community College in Liberal.
